Happy Halloween

Gonna admit, not my favourite holiday but we still partake in it.

What I'm Loving Wednesday

- Yesterday was Boomer's first day alone and even though he probably whined all day and was sad (haha), he did not destroy anything.  He did take all the shoes out of the closet but he did not chew any of them!

- both kids have had Spirit Week this week at school and I am loving it more than them I think.  Today for Tanner it was Show Your School Spirit so he wore his Onslow shirt and I sprayed his hair blue!!

- tomorrow is pay day

- Halloween is tomorrow night and I am anticipating working from home on Friday

- Looking forward to seeing all the costumes tomorrow night while giving candy out

- Maddy was sick on Monday and stayed home but thankfully it was short lived and she was back to school yesterday.

- I found my way yesterday going from my building to the Winners a block away by not going outside, by going through the LRT tunnels....yay!!!

{Weekend Rewind}

Friday night Tanner decided to skip hockey so he could go to a birthday party and Ricky and Maddy were at darts, so it was just me and Boomer for a couple of hours and I just sat on the couch watching Parenthood.

Saturday morning we were all up when Boomer got up, haha!  We lazed around, did a few loads of laundry then Ricky headed to the camp and the kids and I went for a walk.  We stopped at Hollie's and Boomer got to meet Duke.  Once we got home, we walked up to the gym where they were having a fundraiser.  We had hotdogs, kids played ping pong, Tanner got his face paint, we did Zumba and to end it all, Maddy won a basket full of "girly things".  When we got home, Boomer was excited to see us.  Saturday night, Maddy was supposed to babysit and I was going along (new kids) but we got cancelled at the last minute which was okay with us.  We just watched Survivor and went to bed.

Sunday was my first lesson in the new Sunday school program and I was pleased at how well it went.  It amazes me how well the kids sit and listen.  We got to meet our new minister Stephane then headed home to relax before heading to Aylmer for supper for Kaitie's 20th birthday celebration.

Meet Boomer!

This happened on Wednesday night.  All very quick.  A guy that works with Ricky knew a guy that needed to find a good home for their dog.  We have been contemplating the idea, but honestly, too cheap to fork out all that money for a dog.  In came Boomer.  He was free!

The original owners had to find a new home for him because they moved to a condo and didn't think it was fair for him to be confined to a smaller space.  They put ads out and I guess a woman in Cornwall agreed to take him.  Only, Boomer didn't get along with her cat and so she called the original owners to take him back....or she would put him down.  They loved Boomer, so that was not a choice.  They drove to Cornwall, picked Boomer up and if they couldn't find a home that afternoon, they would bring him back to the SPCA where they originally got him.  So we took him.

We ran and got some necessities for him because we didn't know what we were getting, if anything, with him.  We picked up food, a leash and collar and some treats.  We met them in a parking lot at McDonald's and did the exchange.  They had a good vibe from us and were happy he was going to a loving home. 

We surprised the kids and they have been awesome with him.  I know it's only been two days and it will wear off, but the love we have for Boomer already is crazy. 

I stayed home with him yesterday to just make sure everything was okay.  He is a year old, trained and knows when to go outside.  He comes from a French speaking family, so we talk French, and English to him, haha.  He loves going outside, he has lots of energy and he's a pup, so he does chew.  The owners said as long as he has chew toys and knows they are his, he should be good. 

The kids have a PD day so they are home (with Ricky) and will continue to get the routine down for him.  We are trying to sort out what we will do when we are all out of the house.  I am thinking of confining him to the porch cuz there isn't really anything out there he can hurt and he will have more room than crating him, so we'll see!!!

So far he is blending well into our family.  We are all taking turns walking him.  He loves the attention and belly rubs.  He loves to sleep with Ricky.  He loves his rawhide bone with peanut butter in it and despite the fact that he is fixed, he does like to hump!! 

I never thought we would be a dog family, but we love our Boomer!!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

THE BOY WITH THE BIGGEST HEART

Tanner is a very sensitive boy, I say it all the time.  He doesn't like being upset, hates seeing others upset, gets along with everyone and just loves everything.

Last Friday, he "skipped" school to spend the day with me.  I sent his teacher an email in the morning telling her he would not be at school.  She replied thanks then later on I get another email from her.  I open it and it says "please tell Tanner thank you.  He left me the sweetest note on my desk.  Tell him he has one on his desk for Monday".

Awwwww.....

So I asked him - "Tanner, Ms Selina said you wrote her a note"

Tanner: "Yep, I did yesterday and left it on her desk, as a surprise"

Me: "What did it say?"

Tanner: "Dear Ms Selina: You are the greatest teacher.  You are kind and help me and all your students.  Love Tanner."

Awwwww.....

{Weekend Rewind}

Friday I was off to get a new windshield and that was a longer day than I expected.  First off, they had no loaner car for me and I wasn't about to stay there for hours...so I rented a car...whatever, for $30 a day, worth it.

I ended up heading to Orleans to visit my sister to waste some time...we went for breakfast then I went back and had a little nap with Miss Everlea.

I got a call that the car would be ready for 2 pm, not 4 pm, so I packed up and headed back to Kanata to do my running around and was back at the dealership at 2 pm.

What a difference a new windshield makes!

Ricky ended up coming home Friday night so he went to darts and I headed to hockey with Tanner and Rylie while Maddy went to her first high school dance for Halloween.

Saturday morning I was up early and started getting things ready for Car Rally day.  Maddy and I packed the car, dropped Tanner and Rylie off at Momma's then met our gang at Jill's.

It was a nice day, weather wise, for the rally but the day was long and tiring.  We left at 10:20 am and was back at 5:30, rushing to get done.  We had supper and stuck around for the answers then went home and to bed.

Sunday morning I was up early and made muffins with Tanner, started laundry and tidied up before getting ready to head to Church.  After Church, Ricky and Tanner were out partridge hunting, so Maddy and I got some Halloween bags done and just lazed around watching When Calls the Heart.

Ricky came home late afternoon, I made supper and Dad came over to eat with us.  It was showers, baths, homework, shows and bed.

Dark, Dreary Day

It would be a really nice day to just lay in bed watching shows!

Oh well, I am off tomorrow.

I am off tomorrow to get a new windshield on my car and I am so happy.  Our windshield has had a rough go in the last couple of years and all the cracks have all mingled together and causing distraction in our driving view so we decided to get it done before winter.

One thing they don't tell you when you are buying a car...how much a windshield will be when you have to replace it.  My old car, $300 from a local guy...this car, $1200 because it's got fancy camera's and it's heated and it needs to be recalibrated through Toyota.

So needless to say, it's going through insurance and we only have to pay the deductible.

The sucky part...they don't give me a rental or anything, so I would basically be stuck there all day (because they can't give me a time of when it will be done) so I had to rent a car from Enterprise (luckily, it's only $30).

Saturday is Car Rally so I plan to spend the day buying treats and snacks, cuz that's what Car Rally is all about (oh, and butt cracks LOL, we already warned the littles coming with us this year haha)

Tanner has a birthday party on Saturday, so I guess I will have to pick up a present too.

Friday night is hockey and Maddy has her first high school dance.  It's a Halloween Dance and she is dressing up as a mime.

I guess Ricky will be home at some point this weekend....and as of now, without a moose I suppose.

Looking forward to the last weekend without him!

{Long Weekend Rewind}

Friday I took the day off to help out at the school's soccer tournament.  It was such a nice day for it, I even got a sunburn on my face.  I got to rest a little before the kids came home from school and then headed to hockey with Tanner, while Maddy headed to darts.

Saturday morning we slept in a little then got up and did all my prep for Thanksgiving dinner.  My sister and her fam came after noon and then everyone else eventually landed in.  We gave my brother and Sue a gift for the new baby coming into our lives soon (stroller and car seat and some cute onesies), we ate dinner, chatted and we were in bed by 8:30 pm.

Sunday morning, all intentions to go to Church...but we didn't!  By the time my sister and her fam left, we decided we didn't have enough time to get ready, so instead, we headed to the city and went to see Abominable.  It was a cute movie and I loved watching it in the slick reclining chairs (I may have napped a little too).

Monday I had promised Tanner a play date, so we picked his buddy Cameron up at 10 and they played all day while Maddy and I literally watched When Calls the Heart all day.  We brought him home for supper, snacked at the chipstand and called it a night around 8 pm.

Thoughts on Thursday

- Ricky is leaving for a week (and two weekends) to go moose hunting and I love it because:

• I don't have to look after an extra "child"
• We can eat what we want for supper (cereal, yes)
• We can watch what we want, when we want, downstairs on the main TV
• Travelling to work...don't have to go through Hull

- As much as I thought our Halloween decorating was good...it's not really, haha! I need more lights and more elevation...I guess you would see things better if you are walking and not driving.

- I feel that we will be adding to our Halloween collection over the years

- Watching Parenthood on Prime TV, finished Unbelievable on Netflix and watching When Calls the Heart with Maddy

- Thanksgiving this weekend is at our place on Saturday

- May take the kids to see a movie on Sunday

- Tanner is having a play date on Monday

- I am loving the afternoon weather this week...not the frosty mornings though

- I'll take what we have compared to what Josee is getting in Cochrane, Alberta - one day sunny and +17, literally next day, -13 and snow everywhere.

- We have an extra passenger travelling with us for a couple of weeks

- Still dealing with this cold...and minor concussion this week.  My cold I thought was letting up then yesterday morning I got up and my nose was a leaky faucet and I had a throat tickle all day

- I am off this Friday to help with the school soccer tournament and then next Friday to finally get a new windshield and possibly do some Christmas shopping

{Weekend Rewind}

It was a Ricky-Free weekend...again!

Friday I was home sick.  I rested and watched shows (and may have done laundry and baked) and by the evening I was feeling a bit better than I had the day before.  I picked the kids up from school and then Thomas at daycare.  We had a quick bite to eat then Tanner, Thomas and I headed to hockey and Maddy went to darts. 

Saturday morning I woke up way too early and I knew it wasn't going to be a good day.  I was dizzy and not feeling well but I promised the kids I would take them for Halloween costumes.  I dragged myself out of bed around 8, we all got dressed and boarded the ferry on a chilly, frosty morning.  We went to Value Village then to the dollar store, stopped at the Mandarin buffet for lunch then headed home.  By the time I got home, I was done BUT I PROMISED the kids we would decorate.  Enough promising I tell ya.  After about three hours, our front was decorated and I crashed.  Later on I realized that I may actually have a concussion.  On Friday night when I was at hockey in the change room, a broom fell that was hanging on the wall and smashed right into my noggin...I have a bump and it's sore, so maybe its that (could have also been that I missed my  thyroid pill).

Sunday morning, again, all intentions to go to Church but still not feeling 100%....so I literally lazed around, napped and watched TV all day long.  Turns out, that was a bad idea because I was still awake at midnight watching TV.

- this week I came down with a cold...ugh!  I hate being sick.

- we had our last soccer practice this week too - yay for that!

- I bought all the Halloween decorations and it's on this weekend's agenda seeing how we (kids and I) have nothing on this weekend

- I got my Epicure order and that's this weekend's plan too ...make room for it all in my cupboards and drawers

- I am on the final season of Baywatch and let me tell you - Mitch has been married, almost married and with different girls every season I think...PLAYA

- next weekend Ricky leaves for a week to go moose hunting...love when he leaves but not sure how mornings are going to work - Tanner is such a bear in the morning

- Maddy came home with an 87 in French and we are both happy with that considering she learned zero French or verbs in 7 years of elementary school

- Maddy has her first dance coming up - now she needs a Halloween costume

- Jill asked me to be on Christmas House Tours this week and immediately I started looking at decorating things but I think we are going to pass this year and prepare ourselves for next year...I would do it but Ricky wasn't on board (not sure he will ever be, but I want to do a few things around the house first)

- I guess this weekend I'll start to do some baking for Ricky to take to the camp...and for the soccer tournament next weekend

- I need to buy Halloween treats too before they are all gone but I don't want them in my house....dilemmas!
