What I'm Loving Wednesday

It's another short week...I took Friday off because Maddy has an orthodontist appointment in the morning and then I am going to surprise her with pedicures!

We have a retirement party on Thursday evening over in Kanata, so having the day off on Friday was a good idea.

Tanner is having a sleepover at Sophie's on Thursday so we don't have to worry about him coming to the party.  Him and Daymien have been trying to have another sleepover and it just hasn't worked, so it's planned.

A neighbour brought Tanner a like-new scooter and that's all he is fascinated about this week...he's bringing it to Sophie's for his sleepover so him and Daymien can go "cootering".

I got a trim on Monday...I like my hair short, bob style but in the summer, I just want to be able to throw it up in a ponytail, so I am letting it grow.

ignore the enormous pimple on my face
We got our mouse last week and after checking through the couch to make sure there were no babies, we were in the clear...until Monday morning when we saw another one...and the trap has been empty...aahhh!

My homemade won ton soup...I have been eating it all week

Signing the kids up for soccer and ball this weekend, actually, it may just be soccer.

The lovely weather...I don't even mind the cooler mornings!

Getting my Notice of Assessment and they changed something due to the new budget and it basically evened me out with $100 extra in my pocket!

Happy Wednesday!

Faves: Essential Oils

Anyone that knows me, knows that I have a wee obsession with essential oils.  I am not committed to one brand, I love them all!

These are my faves and what I use them for and stuff (in no particular order)

Do Terra's Easy Air

This one is a respiratory blend that I use in my diffusers.  It has peppermint, eucalyptus, tea tree oil, lemon and ravensara.  It smells heavenly.  I am also a big fan of this blend in a roll on stick that I use on the kids when they are sick.

Do Terra's Balance blend

This is a grounding blend and it's commonly used to help with anxiety.  I haven't actually received this one yet, just ordered it because I want Maddy to try this.  I will diffuse this but I will also put it directly on her wrists daily.  This blend contains spruce needle/leaf, frankincense, blue tansy flower, and blue chamomile.  If you mix this with Wild Orange, this becomes a blend to use on kids for crankiness too.

Sage's Immune Blend

This is my life saver.  This is a germ / virus fighting blend and this was all I used to have going in my diffuser.  I also have it in a roll on format as well so when we feel a little tickle coming, we rub it on our throats.  It's a pleasant smell - it contains eucalyptus, cinnamon and tea tree oil.

Sage's Peppermint Halo Wand

This is another lifesaver when I have a headache.  Sure, I take Tylenol but I find using the wand along with my Magic bag is just as effective.  Maddy hates taking medication so this works for her as well when she has a headache, and she also uses this to calm herself down. It's a win-win.

Lemon

I am not picky on a certain brand, lemon essential oil is just lemon essential oil, so to me, it doesn't matter where it comes from, as long as it's 100% natural.  I use lemon in water and mixed with water and Wild Orange to make a cleaning solution rather than using ones with chemicals.

Grapefruit

I have the Do Terra Grapefruit and it has many uses.  I use it with lemon and orange to make a citrusy diffuser blend and I also use it in water to drink to maintain my appetite.

Lavender / Lemongrass

I am not a big fan of lavender but I recently bought the essential oil so I can make my own bug spray this year for the kids.  Alongside that, I bought Lemongrass for the bug spray too.

Homemade Bug Spray
- witch hazel
- distilled water
- 20 drops of lavender essential oil
- 20 drops of lemongrass essential oil
- 10 drops of peppermint essential oil

Melaleuca (Tea Tree Oil)

This is basically an oil for everything   We use it in our shampoo to keep the lice away.  It is a great antiseptic agent too so we use it on bobos and it works great when I pick my toes and get them infected.  It works great on cold sores and on Tanner's eczema-like patches all over his poor little body.  You can use it in household cleaning, it removes mold, you can mix in with your laundry...it really is good for almost everything.

{Weekend Rewind}

Friday night, nothing much was going on.  There was no cards so after supper, I cleaned the house and then Shannon, Casey and Rylie popped over for a visit.

Saturday morning I was up early so I could be at the grocery store for when it opened at 8 am.  Got groceries, then ran to Dollarama and then to Ricky's special store for some of his food.  After heading home, unloading groceries we had lunch and Rylie stayed for a nap.  While she napped, the kids played outside while I prepared a Napa salad and made homemade won ton soup.

When Rylie woke up, her parents came and got her and they were heading back to the city to keep their sickie germs there.  Josee and Landyn eventually came over and we hung out with the kids.  It wasn't a really nice day out, it was sort of cool but the windows were open.  We took a couple of walks with the boys to check out the water situation in town.

After supper, Josee and I hung out and watched Hockey Wives and then her and Landyn headed home for the night.  Poor Landyn, every time it's time to leave, it's a very emotional good bye.  I had to bribe him with Oreos.  I hopped in the bath and tried to wait up for Ricky (who was working a shift at the Legion) but had a headache and headed to bed with the kids.

Sunday morning Maddy was supposed to be going with the older Sunday school kids for a fun day at Fun Haven but her anxiety set in unfortunately and decided not to go.  We were going to head to Church but once we headed outside, we decided to spend the day out there...literally.  We cleaned up, and just sat and relaxed and talked with the neighbours.  Eventually Josee and Landyn stopped in and while Ricky watched the boys, Josee and I ran up to her house to air it out and move some stuff in.  Josee and I hung outside and I got my first real sunburn of the season.

They left right before supper.  We had an early supper and while Ricky watched hockey games, Maddy and I watched It Takes Two then we all called it a night around 7:45 pm.

It's another short week for me as I took Friday off because Maddy has an orthodontist appointment and then we are going to go and get pedicures!

Wishing Josee a good day at work today!!!

Happy Monday!

This Week...

- was a short week, Hallelujah to that

- was busy at work

- I had my first taste of Korean goodness at my trusty old food cart

- it rained

- I am thankful that I do not live close to the water...we are dealing with flooding in our area and it's pretty scary.  They actually had Red Cross bring in cots and stuff and there were areas that were evacuated.

Taken from Facebook

Taken from Facebook

- I was a little pissed off at our community...actually, more the school community.  I had a Paint Nite fundraiser going for 8 weeks now.  Before I even confirmed to this, I sent out a survey to get people's opinions with the pricing and stuff and I had so many people on board...as of yesterday, I had 18 that had registered and 4 of those were actual parents of the school.  Thanks to all the others that support our school

- we finally caught the mouse...last week we saw the little bastard go under MY COUCH (the one I sit on) and apparently may have been there all week cuz Ricky said Wednesday night he was going crazy inside it and Thursday morning he was caught in the trap...BAM!  Let's hope that he isn't a she and had babies in my couch.

- Tanner had a cough but nothing else

- Maddy had a French presentation and an English essay due

- I got a bloody nose at work...twice

- we got our new tires put on - THANK YOU BUTTER!  The Coopers I bought last year were super loud and annoying so Butter hooked us up with some Yokohoma or whatever they are called and it was smooth sailing yesterday morning with no noise!

- I taught Sparks and had a great time...they are a much easier group than my Girl Guides...they actually LISTEN! HAHA.  We talked about Friendship, made friendship wreaths with our hand prints and made homemade ice cream...the girls loved it.

- I wore a pair of pants to work that didn't fit me, but I left them undone haha

- Ricky's Pittsburgh Penguins shirt came in and lo and behold, it was too big (but he kept it) - that NEVER happens.

Happy Weekend!

What I'm Loving and Not Loving This Wednesday

- loving that spring has sprung / not loving that it's rainy all week

- loving that I tried to bring a Paint Nite to our community / not loving that I doubt I will come up with the minimum number in two days (so much for trying to raise money)

- loving that our office is getting a makeover / not loving the noise that comes with it

- loving that my hair is getting longer / not loving that it's actually uncontrollable (need a trim)

- loving that we are getting new tires put on today / not loving that the ones that I bought last year are crap and noisy (but loving that my BIL is in the tire business)

- loving that Tanner has started sleeping with Ricky / not loving that he decided to sleep with me last night and kicked me and kept me up about 80% of the night

- loving that my Korean cart was outside yesterday / not loving that I am way too tempted to eat there like every day

- loving that we have weekend "boarders" (Josee and Landyn) / not loving that in two weeks they will likely be moved into their own place (loving that it's super close to us though)

- loving that it's a short week and it's already Wednesday / not loving that today will likely feel like Tuesday...slow

What are you loving / not loving today?

{Weekend Rewind}

Whoa Nelly, let's rewind all the way back to Thursday...

Thursday evening there was an easter egg hunt held at the library.  It was so nice to see so many kids and parents out.  Each kid had a number and they had to find all the eggs that matched their number...each kid got 10 eggs.  It was a great evening.

Friday was Good Friday and of course we had the day off.  We got up in the morning and I got some cleaning done, and started some laundry.  Around lunch time we headed to the city to do some running around.  First stop was to Canadian Tire to get Maddy's new bike and both kids got helmets.  We ran to Walmart to get a few last minute things and Tanner ended up with a new bike too.  After the shopping was done, we headed over to Tracy and Butter's to chill, play video games and a steak supper.

Saturday morning I got up early and started getting all my easter stuff ready for home and for sunday school while the kids were still sleeping.  After breakfast, Maddy and I headed up to Shawville to go to Kelly's Greenhouse to do some planting for her planting badge for Girl Guides.

When we got home, we went to my parents place.  The adults played Texas Horseshoes and the kids and I kept hiding easter eggs and finding them over and over again until the rain started.  We headed inside and eventually Josee and Landyn joined us.  Unfortunately after supper, we decided to take the kids back to our house cuz they were getting rowdy and noisy.  We finally settled the boys down around 9 and Josee and I played the Easter Bunny.

Sunday morning Josee and I were up waiting on the kids to get up.  LOL.  Finally around 7:30, they all were up and started their hunting.  The Easter bunny always does treasure hunts at our place.  The boys followed clues that we would read to them and then at the end was their basket full of surprises.  Maddy's was more tech friendly this year.  Inside her plastic eggs were barcodes in which she would use her phone to scan and then it would say the clue...her's were all outside and her basket ended up being found outside in Ricky's truck.  They all loved their hunts and finished by finding the chocolate eggs.

We all got dressed, we said goodbye to Josee and Landyn and then headed to Church.  It was my week to teach.  We told the easter story by opening the resurrection eggs, listened to the story on the laptop and finished with an egg hunt outside.

After lunch, we headed to Connie's for supper with Tracy and Butter and were home around 7 pm.

Monday was another holiday but I was working from home.  Luckily, nothing was going on because it was a UK holiday and the client was still off.  The kids spent all day outside biking, running and playing with sidewalk chalk.  We caught up on some shows, did some meal prepping, cleaned the car and put away the seasonal stuff outside.  It was a eat in front of the TV night to watch Survivor then baths and bed.

How was your long weekend?

What I'm Loving Wednesday

- that this week is flying by because I am super busy at work

- it's a short week and a long weekend

- had a good time at Guides last night...we had some newbies who are trying it for the rest of the year to see if they want to join next year and it was our Easter party

- the weather...wish it would warm up like Monday though

- got an email last night that we get 50X CT points on the purchase of kids/youth bikes...we are buying Maddy one on Friday

- Easter dinners this weekend

- Lent is almost over and I can have pop (or maybe I wont?)

- it's my week to teach at Sunday school which means I HAVE TO GO...it's been easy to skip church lately

- play off hockey pools...it's the only time I really pay attention to hockey because I am in a pool (that I have won twice in the past couple of years)

- Easter stuff is all bought

- that Wentworth is back

- I think Tanner's stupid wart on his knee is finally gone (cross fingers)

- the new Ruffles Mozarella n' Marinara chips

Happy Hump Day

{Weekend Rewind}

What a nice weekend!

Friday after work and after supper, we headed up to Nanny and Papa's for a visit and to sell some Girl Guide cookies.  It was a horribly windy night.  I thought everyone was going to blow away.

Saturday morning I was up early enough and wasn't in the mood to do much unfortunately.  I finally got myself and Maddy ready and headed out around 11 to the local chip truck to sell cookies.  Maddy was the only Guide that showed up and after a couple of hours, we packed up and headed home.

It was cool sitting out there all morning (and I managed to get a sunburnt forehead) and when I got home, I soaked in a nice hot bath while I waited for Josee and Landyn to come.  They arrived around 3 and we hung out and had Pizza Pizza for supper.  After supper, we left the kids with Ricky and headed next door for some drinks and girl time at my friend Hollie's mom house.  Josee and I headed home around 11 and the boys were still awake and hyper with Ricky.  Haha!  We all got ready for bed and hit the sack.

This was what happened to my pitcher...Hollie had it filled and I dropped it out of the fridge by accident = broken pitcher and a big sticky mess

Sunday morning I had all intentions to get my butt to Church...but that didn't happen.  We had breakfast and basically spent the rest of the day outside.  We walked over to the school where the kids played then spent the rest of the day outside out house trying bikes out and cleaning out the "summer bin".

It was a nice weekend spent outside and can't wait for all the warm days in the future.  After supper, it was baths, shows and bed...everyone crashed early from all the fresh air.

How was your weekend?

Thursday Ramblings

Ricky has been home with strep throat which is nice because he has offered Tanner to stay home with him too, so that means that I can get ready, get Maddy ready and we can walk out the door when we are ready and I get to work earlier, so I can leave earlier!

Guilty confession here: this week I have not prepared a decent supper.  Monday night we had chip stand and it went downhill from there...last night we had cereal (maybe Tuesday too??) but I have pork in the crockpot and potatoes peeled for tonight!

My sister talked about my precious niece being a monster at daycare and yesterday she had a really good day...wanna hear about my monster at daycare last week (it ties in with Tanner's funny moments).  One night last week I asked him if he was good at daycare and immediately says no.  I was like what?  what happened?  He puts his head down and says Sophie gave me trouble.  I said for what?  He goes on to explain that at nap time, his foot hit a toy which made noise which made Sophie come to check on things.  I guess Sam is usually the culprit and is always trying to play during nap time, so when Sophie asked who was playing with the toys, Tanner immediately blames it on Sam.  The funny thing is, Tanner admitted it to us.  I held in laughter and explained to him that he can't blame others.  He puts his head down and was like I know, me don't want to go back to Sophie's now!  Little bugger.

Today is supposed to be another retarded rainy day...better than snow!

This weekend however, super nice!

I met a new neighbour last night.  She is interested in signing her daughter up for Sparks and we stopped last night to sell cookies and we had a nice chat.

I am helping a friend find a job, so if you have anything locally, let me know.

This weekend we have no plans except for selling Girl Guide cookies on Saturday...may take a trip to the city to buy the kids new bikes too now that the weather is getting nice.

I suppose I should get Easter eggs and stuff soon.

Today is my second better half's birthday - Happy Birthday to Butter!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

- now that the rain washed away all the snow yesterday, looking forward to warmer temps

- that Ricky went to emerg last night to get his throat checked (he couldn't even drink yesterday) and it came back positive for strep throat

- selling Girl Guide cookies this weekend with our troop

- when Tanner wants to stay home so he can sleep which leaves me driving in alone and at worker earlier

- Wentworth AND Prison Break started this week

- getting a nice chunk of income tax back but owing it back - BUT the upside, at the end of the day, I only owed a little over $200 once my refund was taken off my balance.

- having a quieter week at the office

- sugar snap peas (my current snack food)

- that Lent is almost over...when I gave Pepsi up a couple years ago, it didn't bug me (maybe because I could still drink other pop) but this time giving up pop in general is hard and I find myself very tempted to cheat at times, BUT I HAVEN'T

What are you loving Wednesday?

Rainy Morning Rant

It is a rainy morning...a very rainy morning.

I drove in alone because Ricky is home sick.

I hate driving in the rain.  I hate driving in the dark and rain.  I hate our highways and how they are not level and all the water just pools on the highway.

However...I have my five year old with me and I drive cautiously.  I didn't even get to drink my hot chocolate this morning because both hands were on the wheel because it was also super windy.

I kept looking down at my speedometer thinking I was holding up traffic (when in fact, no one was really close to me) and I was always between 80 and 90 km which I think is good.

We get to one stretch of the highway right before the 4 lanes, which in this case, if there was a line up of traffic, this is their prime chance to pass, right?  Well there is a straight stretch right before that which has a passing lane.

I'll draw the picture for you.  School bus in front of me, then me and about 5 cars behind me.  We approach a little strip mall and school bus has signal light on to turn left, crossing the highway when out of no where, I see lights flying on the other side of the road PASSING all these 5 cars, myself and the bus AS it's about to turn.  I brake, I think I may have closed my eyes and I prayed to God that that bus driver was going to double check before turning that bus FULL OF SCHOOL CHILDREN.

The culprit...a goddam black SUV that we see every morning driving this way.  He speeds, passes on corners and doesn't give a shit about anyone but himself. He has actually driven me off the road before for passing on a corner and not seeing oncoming traffic. He also has a company vehicle with his name on it.

To the driver of the black SUV with Dube Body Shop written on it...you are lucky that nothing happened this morning - you stupid, stupid idiot!  Your day is coming though!!

To the bus driver, thanks for double checking before turning and looking out for those innocent children.

To everyone else - when it's rainy, drive for the conditions of the road!

{Weekend Rewind}

Despite having a cold all weekend, we had a great weekend!

Friday we were off work because it was needle day for the kids.  We were up early and at the hospital before 8 am.  The kids both got their blood work and were both champs - no tears.

After a quick pit stop at GT we headed home and just hung out catching up on shows and napping.

Saturday, Josee and Landyn came over for a sleepover.  They arrived around 2 pm and the boys immediately got to making a mess playing.  Josee cried for some baking, so I whipped her up some chocolate cream cheese muffins and we just chatted.

Maddy headed to an overnight birthday party at her friend's Olivia and Ricky went to the Legion.

We sat down for supper and then Ricky's sister Connie and her bf Ronnie stopped in which was nice.  They stayed for a couple of hours and we even got a brief appearance by his other sister Cindy and her husband Dan.  After they were all gone, Ricky headed for cards at my grandma's and Josee and I just hung out.

Bedtime was quite interesting.  The boys wanted to sleep together but we thought they would just play so we both said no and went into bed with each of the boys.  Tanner basically cried himself to sleep and Landyn called his daddy to tell him that sleepover mean sleeping with your friend.  They both forgot how bad of mommies we were in the morning.

Sunday was bright, sunny and a gorgeous day out.  After a breakfast of bacon and French toast, Josee and I snuck out to pick up Maddy and then we got dressed to head to the sugar bush.

Alary's sugar bush is a short drive from our house and although there isn't a brunch or anything, I like that I can get my fix of taffy on snow within 10 mins from home.  The kids played around for a bit while Josee and I chatted by the fire.  Maddy bought some maple butter and we headed to the city.

We headed to Walmart to pick up some rubber boots for me and a new vacuum.  We stopped at Bulk Barn to get some gum balls for our machine and after a quick stop for gas and a car wash, we headed home for a steak dinner.

After our supper and baths, we got lunches ready and lights were out by 8 pm.

How was your weekend?
