{Weekend Rewind}

Friday night Tanner and I headed to hockey practice while Maddy headed off to her confirmation class.  Once we got home, we stopped in quickly so I could see Thomas (hadn't seem him in a while) but the little bugger was sleeping, so after a quick visit, we headed home and bed.

Saturday morning, the kids and I headed to practice again.  After practice, we headed to the hospital to see how Nanny was coming along.  She was happy to see us and it was nice to see her in much better humour now that she's closer to home and somewhere she likes...haha!

We ran to pick up Tanner's cake and then headed home to clean up, set up and tried to have a wee nap, but then guests arrived.  We just had family over for supper and cake.  It was an early night for everyone.

Sunday morning I laid in bed and was looking at Facebook and saw that Church was cancelled which meant the weather was bad outside.  We had a mix of everything...freezing rain, rain, snow...so I made the decision to not head to the birthday party that Tanner was invited to.  He was bummed, but he was bringing his gift to school today.  The kids played computer games together and we napped and relaxed.  I eventually made a nice chicken dinner for supper and then again, called it an early night while Ricky watched curling (yawn).

How was your weekend?

TGIF

It has been a busy week at work which is good because the time passes by quickly...yesterday I barely had time to eat lunch.

Here are some ramblings for today:

- My baby is 7 today...

- I made a yummy cream of vegetable soup this week for Ricky, but apparently it makes him sick so I have been eating it and I want to make another pot of it.

- we are just having some family over for Tanner's birthday tomorrow night for supper and cake.  During March Break, he will have a friend or two over.

- today is World Thinking Day for Girl Guides so the girls are able to wear their uniform to school...Maddy has a volleyball tournament but she wore her scarf in honor or the day.

- next week is going to be a weird week too...Wednesday we have to go to Montreal for follow up, Thursday I have to leave early for a school meeting and Friday I am off to spend the day with Maddy and her class at Destination Imagination.

- Glad that Ricky is off for March Break...I am hoping to take Thursday and Friday to take the kids to Flying Squirrel one day.

- Ricky is feeling good and eating a little more every day.

Happy Weekend Everyone!

{Life Rewind}

- Ricky had surgery on Friday and all went well and we were discharged by 11 am the next morning and our way home from Montreal.

- the kids and I had a nice visit with Nanny who made us fresh buns, made us our meals and provided us with beds to sleep in for the night.  Much cheaper than having to rent a hotel.  She was lonely when we left though and only stayed the one night.

- Ricky had a little set back on Sunday and after counselling with his surgeon on Monday, I took him to the ER in Shawville only to sit there for 7 hours without being seen.  Needless to say, Ricky was uncomfortable from sitting so we left without being seen.  He probably needed a blood transfusion but Shawville didn't think it was a priority, so Ricky was like why should I?

- Of course I didn't sleep well because I was scared he would bleed out and die, but by the next morning he had his energy back, wasn't as weak and managed to eat some cream of veggie soup I made.

- Because we were at the hospital on Monday, I wasn't sure how long we were there so I called work and decided to work from home on Tuesday.

- the convoy of trucks came through downtown anyways, so that was another plus to working from home (even though they were cleared out by the time rush hour traffic).

- My nanny also got transferred to Shawville yesterday which she is UBER HAPPY about...I think now she may cooperate more and get the hell home sooner rather than later.

- I had an important meeting that was re-scheduled to tomorrow and of course it's calling for freezing rain, ugh, I hope it just snows, even ice pellets enough for me to get to work and then do whatever and cleaned up by the time I go home.

- We had our skating party last night for Girl Guides and it was sooo cold, but we had a great turnout and the kids all had a blast.

- Tanner's birthday is this weekend and he is getting short-changed but I don't think he even cares.  We will have family over Saturday for supper and cake, that's all.

- Oh back to Ricky, now that he has had the surgery, he is on a whole lotta vitamins, because they were prescribed, I thought we wouldn't have to pay (insurance)...nope, $100 just in vitamins alone, because they are off the shelf, insurance companies don't reimburse.  That is what it's going to cost a month....so...he will be eating less food so you think saving money on food BUT yet, $100 in vitamins haha.  Maybe I should start a Go Fund Me Page, bahahaha!

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

TGI...THURSDAY

Yesterday was a snow day and we were home which included the kids.  I think this is the first time at least since the ice storm of 98 that schools were actually CLOSED...typically buses cancel but schools remain open.

Today I am back at work and then off tomorrow and Monday for Family Day.

Tomorrow is Ricky's surgery.  We received the call last night that we have to be in Montreal for 6:30 am so tonight will be packing and bed early for an early start to the day.  The plan is to go to the hospital with him to get checked in and stuff then we will head over to Nanny's.  I am thinking I may want to nap BUT I am sure Nanny wants to visit with us.  So we'll see....

Surgery is at 8:30 and it's about 4 hours and then he will be put in recovery and then eventually a room.  The plan is once he's back in a room, we will go back over, check on him, hang out for a bit and then be back at Nanny's for supper and bed.  The kids have downloaded movies on Netflix and packed their things to keep them occupied.

The plan after that is discharge at 11 am on Saturday, if there are no complications.  It will be nice to just get back home.  He is then off work until April 1st.  He has to take it easy for the first 4 weeks not lifting anything over 15 lbs and he can start to walk and do minimal exercise.  He will be able to eat a full fluid diet which will include cream based soups and Rice Krispies and milk...so although he will be restricted a little, it's not just Boost and veggies!

We are looking forward to this being over and getting used to the new lifestyle.  I have to say, he has been really good this past 3 weeks of basically starving himself.  He has had some small slips but in the three weeks, he has lost 20 lbs and he can tell in his pants and definitely his belt he says.  He is proud of just that 20 lbs so I am hopeful that all will be good afterwards.

Lastnight I signed Tanner up for karate at the gym, so soon all four of us will be there!

Wish us luck tomorrow and have a great weekend!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

Ugh, if you live near Ottawa and you have looked out your window, there is SNOW...and lots of it...BUT I'm loving that it was declared a "snow day"!

I'm loving that Ricky's surgery is this Friday...I can't wait for it to be over and back home.

I am loving that despite the fact that he has 5 weeks of introducing food back into his diet post-surgery, at least he won't be as restricted.  Right now it's Boost and veggies.  He loves the Boost but yesterday he nearly puked eating his veggies at lunch - his system has had enough he said.

I am also loving that the kids and I get to spend some time at Nanny's.

I'm loving that Maddy made some money these last two PD Days by babysitting.

I'm loving that I had THE best massage on Monday.  I was really sore and it was my mid back that was bugging me, which is unusual, and it appears that it's being caused by something new I am doing at the gym.  Luckily, I get to roll around on a foam roller or yoga ball to correct it.

Because of said massage and the fact that I book one once a month, I am loving that we have medical benefits so that I can not only enjoy the massage but not have to pay for it either.

I am loving that I am going to take some time off during March Break.  I promised the kids a day in the city - Flying Squirrel, Toys R Us and lunch.

I am loving that Sparks and Girl Guides was cancelled last night because of snowmaggedon...that means Maddy goes to darts with Ricky and Tanner and I get to do whatever we want (which is usually just bath and bed haha).

I am loving that despite the little sniffles and coughs, I am THANKFUL that my kids and I are relatively healthy.  I look around and so many people have kids sick and themselves, back and forth to hospitals, medications, and I'm all like, put the camphor in your jammies!

Happy Wednesday

{Weekend Rewind}

Friday morning Nanny got her hip surgery and all went well.  She will stay in the hospital until they feel she can walk good.  Unfortunately it may take longer than she wants.  She is cranky and wants out!!

Friday night I did the hockey run because I had to run to the grocery store and pick up the cake that I ordered and other things for Maddy's birthday celebration on Saturday.  It was really windy and cold and I wasn't feeling well at all...and I blame that on the fact that I lost Ricky's bank card.  Of course, I didn't realize it was missing until Saturday morning.

Saturday morning Ricky and Tanner skipped hockey which was a good choice because the arena ended up double booking and our guys got booted from their normal practice time.  Shit happens.  I was heading to the city for a Home and School meeting.  This is when I realized the bank card was missing.  I looked in my coat pockets, purse and the car and nothing.  I had to tell Ricky...and he was pissed!  Haha!  He ended up going online to check and it said his account was locked, so he called but they couldn't do much but tell him that it was locked.  There are two ways it could be locked:  someone tried to purchase something and tried to use the PIN too many times or someone found it and called it in and locked it.  Luckily for us, and social media, a nice gentleman found it in the arena parking lot and called and got it locked.  Phew.  There are some nice people out there.  It bugged me all day because of the "tap" feature, people could use up to $100 by just tapping, no PIN required, so that scared me.

Saturday afternoon some friends came over and we celebrated Maddy's 12th birthday with cake.  The kids just did their own things while the adults chatted upstairs.  It was an early night thank god because I still wasn't feeling well.

Sunday morning I was teaching Sunday School again and I went alone, again.  The kids wanted to stay at home.  The rest of the afternoon was spent making meals for Maddy to feed her kids she's babysitting for two days (PD days) and catching up on shows.  Tanner went to Momma's, Olivia slept over and I finished How To Get Away With Murder on Netflix and started Working Mom's (hilarious show by the way).

How was your weekend spent?

What I'm Loving Wednesday

- This clown turns 12 today...I can't even believe it.  She is such a caring, loving girl and I am looking forward to the next chapter of her life.  She will be starting high school in the Fall and she has people contacting her all the time to babysit.

- with Ricky's upcoming surgery right smack down in the middle of both kids birthdays, I think this year we are just taking it easy.  Maddy is going to have some friends over this Saturday for cake.

- Nanny is getting better I suppose, but still hasn't had surgery due to pneumonia over the weekend.  They want to ensure that her lungs are healthy enough before doing surgery.  We are praying she gets it over with soon and can go back home to Papa.

- I think we have a long term plan of going to Disney in 2021.  We have a cruise booked for 2020 but I think the next year we want to do Disney.  So, friends - start saving and we can rent a house and go together!

- Maddy and I went to the gym before Zumba class on Monday and we had a great workout before.  We did some yoga ball exercises then did the machines.  It was nice and the music was loud and pumping.  We have both signed up for a month now, so we are looking forward to going more!

What are you loving today?

{Weekend Rewind}

Friday I took the afternoon off and did some running around and then went to the hospital to keep mom and them company and to say hi to Nanny.  After picking Ricky up, the kids and I packed up and headed to hockey.

Saturday morning we were on the road early (except neither one of us set an alarm cuz we thought the other one did so luckily I got up and got us moving) to Beachburg for hockey.  There was snow, there was blowing, we were late but we made it with some time to spare.  After a fun game of the kids all taking turns in nets (in which Tanner has decided he may want to be goalie afterall), the other team won big time, but since we don't keep score, it didn't matter.  Our kids scored 3 goals all at the end and that put smiles on their faces.

On the way home, Maddy got dropped off at Kenzie's to spend the day with her while Ricky, Tanner and I stopped to wish Papa a Happy Birthday.  He loves seeing the kids and with Nanny in the hospital, it cheered him up.  We didn't stay long before heading home and napping.  Once we were up, the snow had stopped so the three of us headed outside to shovel and then I made a pot of beef barley soup for supper.  Eventually Tanner and I went to pick Maddy up and have a little visit because Ricky was watching hockey.

Sunday morning Maddy and I headed to Church cuz I was teaching.  It was Superbowl Sunday and since our house has been limited with food intake lately, I brought some brownies for the kids and I (they sorta looked like footballs).  We discussed how football ties in with the Bible by quoting Matthew 6:24 and finished by playing Bible Trivia with a football field as scoring.  The rest of the day was spent napping, watching Spy Kids with Tanner and making muffins and protein balls with Maddy.

How was your weekend?

One Week Later...

It's been one week since Ricky started his shake diet before surgery...one down, two more to go and I have to say, I am very proud of the willpower he is giving this.  He is actually enjoying the Diabetic Boost, chocolate being the preferred choice and in between the shakes he is drinking lots of water and snacking on veggies. The first two days he had headaches but I think it's a shock to the system first and he went from having coffee and Pepsi to none.  The headaches seemed to have subsided.  The kids and I haven't really had too many hearty, good meals since this change.  We have been having quick suppers and eating in the kitchen so to not have to literally eat in front of him.

What else happened this week?

Well...Wednesday, my Nanny, who will be 98 this April, fell at home and had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance.  This woman is the most stubborn old bird you will ever know, so getting her into the ambulance must have been hard. However, she had no choice, she was in a lot of pain.  After some x-rays, it was determined what they suspected, that she broke her hip.  Now, because of her age, they don't know if they will be able to do surgery?  Because of her age, they can't give her too much pain medication.  She won't be eligible for a full hip replacement or anything, that I know, but they can't leave her with a broken hip, can they?  So we will stay tuned for updates and visit when we can to put a smile on her face.

I put my big girl pants on at work and demanded more money for my job.  Haha!  I have been given a new position for a recent contract we won and I know nothing about it and frankly, it's stressing me out, and it's also an important job so I want to make sure that I am getting paid for it before I put everything into it.  According to the contract, they were supposed to hire someone for this position, so why shouldn't I be compensated too?  They are saving money by not hiring someone, so pay me more!  We'll see what happens.

Maddy and I haven't been on our "gym game" this week.  We went Monday night before Zumba then both had sore tummies by the time Zumba started that we left.  We haven't been back since.  Well Maddy did last night for yoga.

I got a new cell phone.  I got an iPhone 8 so I can give me old one to Maddy (which I don't think is even an upgrade to what she already has but she can make that decision) and for her birthday, I included her on my plan which would mean we could contact her via text and phone call when needed.  I didn't necessarily want to do this at 12 BUT she is going to high school in September and may have some babysitting gigs this summer, and I would feel better if she had service when needed and not have to rely solely on WiFi.

I have had a bad week for sleeping.  Not sure what is going on. I am totally tensing up or something every night and then I wake up to go pee and can barely walk, I am so sore.  I fall back asleep and almost every morning I am having a sense of deja vu or something and have to figure out if what I am thinking was actually a dream or happened in real life.  So weird.

Well, we're back to hockey this weekend with practice tonight and early morning game in Beachburg on Saturday.

Prayers to Nanny!!

Happy Weekend!
