{Weekend Rewind}

Friday

I left work early and headed to the Hyundai dealer to have my current car evaluated to see if we could make a deal to trade it in for a Santa Fe.  Complete waste of my time...and I didn't even get a value out of it.  Apparently they need a couple of days which I have never heard of.  At the end of the day, I will be just keeping my Soul I guess because my loss will be too high.  Whomp whomp whomp. 
After the dealership, I ran to get the kids who were both at Sophie's then we stopped and picked Ricky up and headed to Kanata to meet Bonnie and Molly for supper at Montana's then we were heading to the CTC to watch Disney on Ice.  This was our third year going and I think it may be the last.  It's basically the same thing but this year we all really enjoyed the Frozen segment.  We left about 10 mins early so we could beat the crowds and were home around 9:30 pm.

Saturday

After realizing that the lady at the dealership kept my license, I took the chance and ran to Shawville to pick up a few things and get Tanner a much needed haircut. 

We came home and Ricky got ready to head to his sisters for a night of poker while the kids and I headed to my parents to visit with Rylie and have supper.  Poor Rylie has been battling a virus but she was still her spunky self which included ignoring Auntie and not giving me kisses.  Haha!  She was so funny, she kept asking where is Uncle Rick?  Haha! 

We were home early, baths and the kids and I watched a couple episodes of Fuller House before heading to bed.

Sunday

I got up and made a pot of beef barley soup for lunch and made a spaghetti sauce in the crock pot.  We got dressed and headed to Church where we had our World Prayer service.  We came home, had some soup and just relaxed the rest of the day.  I had a sore shoulder/back so we just took it easy...I think I even had an hour nap.  I finally finished watching Anne of Green Gables and Grease Live then we caught up on some shows and called it a night.

Today I am working from home while Ricky is off to keep tabs on Trade Deadline Day (yes, apparently that is vacation day worthy).  Maddy is on March Break so she is home and obviously because I am home, Tanner is too.  One big happy family today while I work.

Going Random

TGIF first of all!

- so yesterday I did not get my tattoo...bummer.  We had a nasty storm that hit us Wednesday/Thursday so the shop emailed me to tell me that he was closing shop and we'll reschedule for next week hopefully

- yesterday my friend Josee's first born, Liam would have been 5 years old...that's why we were going for tattoos...she wanted a tattoo in remembrance of him...but that didn't work out so we'll have a belated birthday for him ;)

- talking of the storm on Wednesday...it was nasty.  It was the first time in 10 years that I did not feel safe even being on the roads and I could tell that Ricky was even nervous (especially when we almost lost control...let me add that had I been driving, we would have lost control but Ricky can maintain and keep calm).  Anyways we made it home through freezing rain, snow, rain, slush - you name it, we got it.  We did watch a young girl in front of us spin out of control but was able to just turn around on the highway and proceed on her way (after we stopped of course to make sure she was okay)...anyways long story short, we were happy to be back home that night!

- tonight we are taking the kids to see Disney on Ice...they are looking forward to it

- next week is March Break and my poor kid isn't doing too much

- I am anticipating working from home on Monday cuz Ricky is off (for trade deadline day) and it's calling for 15 cm of snow on Sunday (but it's still two days away)

- Maddy has been in school for....3 years now and yesterday was the first day EVER that we had a school bus cancellation.  The funny thing is though, there have been other days (the 51 cm snow storm last week and the week before that a major freezing rain day) and they weren't cancelled - all of Ottawa, yes, Outaouais, no.  This morning, all buses are running BUT the Outaouais.  I can imagine "bus parents" will complain either way...when buses shouldn't be running - they are mad but then when they are cancelled (and it appears okay out) - they are mad haha! 

- Maddy and I watch Kids Baking Championship and we were sad this week when poor little Peggy got sent home (I think I heard Maddy sniffle LOL)

Blog Visit - This Life I Live

If you are a country fan, you may have heard of the husband/wife duo: Rory and Joey.  Anyways, the other day I saw something on Twitter and went to check it out - it was regarding them.

I went to Rory's blog: This Life I Live and just started reading back all these blog posts and at the end, I was in tears.  The blog started in Jan 2014 and it's about their life really.  Things get interesting though when Joey is diagnosed with cancer...then it's treated...then they welcome a baby girl, Indiana who ends up being born with Down Syndrome.  The postings are so powerful and I couldn't stop reading once I started.  Most recently however, she is in Stage 4 of cervical cancer and as of October last year, she decided that she would no longer seek cancer treatment....so Rory is documenting her time at home - her final days he says.  She has daily hospice care but she is in her house, surrounded by her family, especially Rory and Indy.

I was reading the other day and came across this song they did called That's Important To Me (https://vimeo.com/154135028) they said that no one really put it forward, it wasn't a billboard hit they said, but it means everything to them, because that's how their life is.  It was basically Joey's list of what's important to her - fresh food, paying off debt and praying.

One blog entry was about Joey's love to plant in the Spring. Rory said that despite the hand they were dealt with, his wife will see spring and will still be able to plant her seeds because that's important to her - to make sure that her family is eating the best of the best!

They have been nominated for a Grammy this year (this post was done before the Grammy's obviously and unfortunately, they did not win one).  Here is a talk with Rory regarding their nomination:

How are you going to celebrate if you win the Grammy you're up for?
I wish I could tell you that. I'd love to be here holding Joey's hand, watching the show on TV … and if they called our names as the winner, I want to be able to lean over, look into her eyes and say "congratulations honey" and give her a long, slow kiss. But God only knows where we will be in a month.

How sad!! Thankfully, they were able to watch the Grammy's together and she's still here!

I welcome you to follow this blog...it obviously is sad but there are good parts too.  It's just so sad when you hear of a story like this.  If you are like me and enjoy church hymns, they just came out with a CD called Hymns That Are Important To Us and I have bought it already...can't wait to listen to it.

{Weekend Rewind}

I had a great weekend...

Friday was pretty low key once we got home from work...we had supper at my parents and went to visit Nanny and Papa...bed early!

Saturday was a busy day!  I got up early enough, did some cleaning, made breakfast, watched Survivor and did a few loads of laundry.  At 1 pm, Maddy had a Treasure Hunt Party, so she geared up with what we had at home and I dropped her off.

When I got home, I tried to relax a bit cuz I was tired but I had a busy night ahead...we were going out for supper and Paint Nite to say farewell to Josee who is moving to Calgary (actually Cochrane) in April.  I wasn't sure how it was going to end, the Paint Nite I mean, I really didn't think I was that creative and was worried that my painting would look like a three year olds...but I must say, it was a blast doing (minus one little tantrum I had) and it's hanging in my living room.  We can't wait to go back and do another one!  It was a  fun night with a great bunch of girls!

Sunday, I did nothing...and I mean nothing.  I threw some spare ribs in the crock pot first thing in the morning and basically tried to nap all day.  I wasn't feeling well and just laid in bed trying to watch some taped movies.  I got through half of Grease: Live but cat napped through it...then I tried the new Anne of Green Gables and cat napped through that too.  After an afternoon bath, I got a bit of energy to finish getting supper ready and spent the rest of the night watching the clock allowing me to go to bed for the night. 

Today is Monday and it's my baby's 4th birthday!  We have been celebrating his birthday like all month but he knew this morning he was finally 4 (he counted un, deux, trois, quatre to me this morning).  When I got him out of the car to bring him to Sophie's...I always carry him (he has this thing that he hates getting snow on his boots, must be my OCD rubbing off haha) and he was like "no, put me down, me not a baby, me a big boy!" (sighs)

my engagement ring - it was "misplaced" (or not) a couple of weeks ago.  I kept finding myself twisting my ring on my finger but there was no  actual ring, so I brought out my first ring that Ricky got me...thankfully I have something on that finger, but it's not my good engagement ring.

Girls Night Out tomorrow, Tanner's birthday on Monday, Tattoo on Thursday, Disney on Ice on Saturday.

5 Things Thursday

(1) Change: we put our toonies and loonies in a jar (honestly, Ricky is better at this than me)

(2) Leftovers: we bring leftovers or homemade lunches from home

(3) Savings: we try to put $100 a pay into a savings account

(4) Sales: buying things that are on sale and redeeming points

(5) Meal Planning: with one big package of meatballs, I can make three different meals...same as a pack of 5 large chicken breasts.

What I'm Loving Wednesday

After our big dump of snow yesterday, I am not loving too much...but here we go:

- that I have a girls night planned on Saturday, looking forward to it

- a few new recipes I made

- sucre crème - which is a brown sugar fudge that was made in the microwave

- a new version of Anne of Green Gables played lastnight, can't wait to watch it

- next week I am getting my tattoo and I am still up in the air as to what to get and where...I keep changing my mind

- the support that Stuntman Stu is getting after being diagnosed with leukemia...so sad

- that we haven't been hit with the flu bug (knock on wood) - seems like everyone has had it or has it now...my diffuser is going full force

{Weekend Rewind}

This is a day late because yesterday I was off for Family Day.  3/4 of the family was home - Maddy had school. I spent the day making brown sugar fudge, beef barley soup, pepper steak and queso pasta.

Friday night was a rushed night and of course we got some snow and honestly, just a crappy night to be out...but friends and family braved the roads and cold and joined us for an early celebration for Tanner's birthday (and a late celebration for Maddy).  We had lots of pizza, sang Happy Birthday to Tanner with a Paw Patrol cake and then opened presents and chilled.

Saturday was a deep freeze.  It was actually colder than the North Pole which meant that I really just wanted to stay hibernating in my house, in my jammies...but after breakfast with my parents, we showered, got dressed and headed to the city.  My parents watched the kids while we headed out. We ran to Bayshore to spend a gift card...ended up with a pair of dress pants, two sweaters and a scarf and still have like $46 left.  We left there and met friends at Baton Rouge where I went all out and had a raspberry daiquiri and a filet mignon and lobster tail.  Great meal...lots of money!  After supper, we ran to the Casino and were only there for an hour or so...I came out $10 down which was okay.  We grabbed some hot Timmie's for the drive home and picked the kids up.

Sunday was Valentine's day which is really, just another day. I bought everyone chocolate (not me cuz that is what I gave up for Lent).  We got ready and headed to Church.  Ricky had lunch ready and then I ran to Shawville to grab some groceries and visit with Nanny and Papa for a bit. Two hours later, back home, groceries unloaded and just relaxed.

Valentine's Day

Every year I send the kids with Valentine treats for school.  I don't just like sending a little Valentine.  Some years I make cookies or send cupcakes but I was too lazy this year.

Here is what we did this year:

Maddy has 19 kids in her class this year...so for her class, I just picked up a box of packages of Skittles and got her some cool vintage Valentine's to attach.  Simple.

Her daycare has less kids so we decided on these cool Starburst puzzles that fellow blogger friend Elizabeth had posted last year.  It's fairly easy and I am sure the kids will love it.

 

Tanner's daycare has 6 kids including himself and I thought of doing this non-candy treat - Valentine Robots (even bought the raisins already)

but decided on these cute penguin valentines - also from Elizabeth.

5 Things Thursday

(1) Fold a fitted sheet - I just basically throw it into my linen closet...HOWEVER, I did see a trick somewhere to better organize the said linen closet: I stuff the folded sheet, fold the flat sheet and I put it all inside the matching pillowcase...ideally, it should all sit flat and stack on top of each other...but that is probably because I don't know how to fold a fitted sheet.

(2) Let my kids get dirty - anyone that knows me, knows that I hate my kids being dirty...no fingerprinting, no painting, no puddle stomping and I hate snot all over their faces.

(3) Sit and watch cartoons - they are always playing at my house, but in the background, I hate sitting down and watching cartoons...therefore, I don't!

(4) Fancy hairdo's - I cannot and will not attempt.  I may "pin" cute ideas for Maddy's hair but I know damn well that it won't be accomplished.  Since the lice outbreak last year, Maddy's hair is always in a ponytail...this week, I went all out and made a "topsy tail" (remember those).  She always asks for a braid and even after checking on Youtube, I still can't do it.

(5) Let the kids play - I let them play obviously, but they can only play one thing at a time.  I hate having messes all around my house.  I have a small place and hate clutter (OCD I think).  Tanner will be playing with blocks, then he'll be in the kitchen playing with Chase and it's like "Tanner, get in there and clean up the blocks" and if they aren't cleaned up in like 5 mins, guess who's putting them away (me).

What I'm Loving Wednesday

- yesterday was Pancake Tuesday (yum yum)

- it's my daycare provider's birthday today and I sent red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing - Happy Birthday Sophie!

- Maddy is back to school today after having two days off (PD days)

- Valentine's day weekend is coming up...and our anniversary - we're going out for supper

- I won Disney on Ice tickets through our local paper - unfortunately we already bought our 4, so I'll give these ones away!

- I finished Friday Night Lights and now am starting Heartland

- I am almost done Season 4 of Scandal and it was the one season I was sort of like, blah, but I am on episode 13 I think and it's picking up again

- I am almost done Little Earthquakes then starting Me and Emma

- we're having a wee gathering for Tanner (and Maddy for those family members that didn't see her) on Friday night - Tanner's fave: pizza and Paw Patrol

Kids

This weekend when I held Maddy's birthday party, I had 9 x 9 year olds in my house for 4 hours and I learned a lot of things that day.

- I don't remember being a kid and asking flat out if I could stay overnight...or stay longer (hey kid, you were here for 4 hours, time for you to leave)

- when there is candy on the table, they will not eat anything else (hey kid, you better not go home complaining you are hungry and tell your parents I had no food cuz I had TONS)

- kid's apparently forget their "please" and "thank you"

- they don't care about your belongings and they jump on your couch (dude, get the EFF off my couch, it's already broken waiting to be repaired)

- if you leave things out, they are likely to take it (or try to)

- they make lots of noise

- they let themselves the free of the house (even when you tell them to stay upstairs), one minute I have 9 kids in the living room and then all of a sudden, there are 3...the rest, downstairs playing hide and seek in our bedrooms (uumm, no!)

- after not eating their lunch, they come up and say they are hungry, could they have something to eat (other than sandwiches)

- there were three cupcakes left and they wanted more (can you see there are only 3 left...I don't have enough for 9 more, or 6, or 4 so no, you cannot have a cupcake...besides I may be saving them for me)

- they don't know what relaxing spa music is - okay this is sorta funny...I had music playing in the background, sorta ocean waves music and one kid looks at me and says "I think your music is staticky", bahaha we laughed

- they have different ways to express themselves...I believe I heard "baby murderer" from one child

After that four hours, and the next day when things got interesting, I realized that this may be the last time we have a party...from now on, it's one friend for a movie date and sleepover or something.

{Weekend Rewind}

Am I ever glad that is over with and it's pretty safe to say that this will be the last birthday party I have (haha)...from now on, one friend and the movies or something.

Friday night when we got home, we ate some pizza we picked up and then I started prepping for Maddy's birthday.  My parents came over with Rylie but I still managed to get cupcakes iced and hung balloons to the ceiling.  After they left, I finished getting the table ready and then I stopped, got my bath and headed to bed.

Saturday morning I was up first and just went upstairs and straightened my hair before I finished what needed to be done.  The kids were up right after me.  Once hair was done, I started making sandwiches, getting the veggie tray ready, made juice and some chocolate covered strawberries.  Kids started arriving a little before 11 and the plan was to eat first.  Well the kids liked the candies in the martini glasses better and I think most of them just ate the strawberries, veggies and candy...I had a bazillion sandwiches.

Once lunch was done, the kids moved to the living room to open presents while I cleaned up.  After presents were opened, we sang Happy Birthday and ate cupcakes.  I sent them off again to set up the spa stations.

3 girls would enjoy a colored foot soak and a homemade chocolate mask (note to self, next time, omit the oatmeal, just made it messy) and some cucumbers on their eyes.

3 girls would be at the Musical Manicure station with my niece Kaitie.  The each started with a color, played music and when the music stopped, she would paint a nail with the color they had. 

The last 3 girls were at the Lip Gloss/Sugar Scrub Making station with Jill.  They made their own Kool Aid lip gloss and some Sugar scrub to bring home with them.

It went by fairly quickly and before I knew it, it was over and it was only 1 pm...I still had 2 hours with all these kids.  Once we cleaned up, Jill brought them back up and they did a little photo shoot with some props that I picked up.  After that it was free time until parents came and I got to clean up everything and get my house back in order.

Note to self: 9 year old girls are messy.  We couldn't believe the mess they could make while eating.  There was cupcake smooshed into chairs and crumbs all over the floor.  They are pigs haha!

Once everyone left, it was relax time.  Maddy had Olivia overnight and they basically did their own thing and I was in bed early.

Sunday we all headed to Church, came home and had lunch, said goodbye to Olivia and just relaxed and prepped supper.  I had a roast pork in the crockpot all day and my parents were coming to eat Redneck (our pig) with us.  We sat around, chatted a bit and then it was baths, Superbowl and bed.  Okay, I didn't watch football but I did have some nacho chips and salsa with Ricky.  I thought of getting stuff to make some Superbowl snacks but we have been doing so good on the healthy eating front that I decided not too...instead, we had organic blue chips with fresh salsa...and Ricky actually had his first little glass of Pepsi in a month.

That Birthday Post

Tomorrow my house is going to be filled with girls, the sounds of relaxing spa music and hopefully, lots of laughter and memories to be made.  We are celebrating Maddy's 9th birthday tomorrow (on her actual birthday).  I can't even believe that I have a 9 year old, next year = double digits!

Maddy loves:
- broccoli and cheese sauce
- beef barley soup
- playing with Pet Shop and Shopkins
- school, especially math
- being involved
- her brother (and everyone else, she really does have a big heart)

- mushrooms
- being alone

5 Thoughts Thursday

These are all country songs that are currently my faves right now:

(1) Home Alone Tonight by Luke Bryan and Karen Fairchild - I like hearing the story in the song and I like this one.

(2) Unlove You by Jennifer Nettles - I am not a big Jennifer Nettles fan, liked Sugarland better, but I love this new song by her.

(3) Think of You by Chris Young and Cassadee Pope - this song is relatively new, like in the last couple of days on my radar (I haven't even downloaded it yet) but I enjoy it.

(4) Nobody to Blame by Chris Stapleton - I actually prefer Chris Stapleton's other song: Tennessee Whiskey better but I like this one too because he sounds a lot like Travis Tritt and he's one of my favourite classic singers...and Ricky likes him too.

(5) Break Up in a Small Town by Sam Hunt - this song is really overplayed, on New Country 94 anyways and at first I had mixed feelings for it because it was more talking than singing, but it grew on me...again, I like the story behind it because it's true, breaking up in a small town is hard.

Okay, so I just heard a song that I wanted to add to the list but didn't want to take one off so I'll add a bonus track:

(6) Lynchburg by Brea Lawrenson - Maddy and I are big Brea fans and her new song I didn't pay much attention to until I actually saw the video...really powerful and meaning to the song.

What I'm Loving Wednesday

- the milder temperatures and seeing the fields with no snow...spring is coming!

- work being busy

- that someone in our area may have won the 1 million dollar prize from Loto Max last weekend (I was scared to check mine cuz you know I COULD have won, but of course, non winning...boo)

- Maddy's birthday celebration this weekend

- went to the dentist for a cleaning (and I hate the dentist remember) and all is good

- not having to pay a cent at the dentist (with my coverage and Ricky's, we are basically 100% covered for everything...I didn't even have to pay the deductible for the new year)

- joined the Bloglovin' world...still not sure what it is or if I did it right (if you see the Bloglovin' widget on the right hand side of my blog, click on it and see if it brings you somewhere)

- I am hoping to see Miss Rylie this week (maybe a little visit Thursday night or Friday)

- we picked up our pig Monday night (Redneck went to the butcher) and we have a freezer full of meat!

- that apparently this month we are changing our payroll to bi-monthly (although I was sort of loving the monthly thing)

- Family Day is coming up and although I am technically the only one off, I am thinking if the couch repair guy can't come that day, maybe we'll take Maddy out of school and do something (although, they have two PD days this coming week)

- that my mom quit her job (haha) - I like that we have her around for emergencies...such as PD days, closed daycares, sick kids etc...

Miracles

The other night there was a Duck Dynasty episode that was 2 hours and it was actually about Jep and Jessica adopting their newest member of their family.  They have 4 kids of their own, and felt like they were missing something and adopted a newborn baby boy they called Jules. 

The day after watching this episode, I get news from a friend, that her and husband, after 3 years, have a baby, thanks to adoption. 

I couldn't have been more happy for them.  She explained to me the whole process and it's so lengthy.  They were turned away from International adoption because "they were too young".  They went with an agency in Ottawa but were turned down and eventually went to Hamilton.  It's not just a waiting list, it's something that costs a lot of money and it's a whirlwind of emotions.  They have been doing the process for over 3 years.  They were on the Child Services list in Ottawa, so on top of all the other costs associated, their house had to be prepared in the event that they get a foster child.  So, in their house, a nursery and toddler room ready, but always left empty.

December 30th, a baby girl was born in Hamilton.  Their situation was a little backwards however because the birth mother didn't even know she was pregnant, so while traditionally the paperwork is started earlier, this was later and therefore would take a couple of weeks to go through the process.  So late that my friend and her husband were actually boarding a plane to Florida for a vacation when they got the call that they had a baby!  The agent explained the delay and told them to go and enjoy their now, Babymoon and it would take at least 4 weeks. 

They got back from their trip and drove to Hamilton to meet their baby.  They also met with the birth parents and the foster parents that would have her in their care until all the t's were crossed and the i's were dotted.

They had decided that this year they would not worry so much on the adoption and would enjoy themselves...so that's why they took a trip and they bought a snowmobile.  Then BAM! everything changes literally overnight.  They say things like this happen all the time right...you can't get pregnant then once you stop trying, you get pregnant.  She said it's obviously been a financial struggle for the last couple of months but all that matters is that they have their baby girl. 

She has to stay positive and try not too get attached.  They suggest that you don't prepare a nursery or have a shower or anything until a month, at least.  Once the proposal is submitted and the Ministry approves it, the birth parents have 21 days to take the baby back.  She feels very positive and said that she got the impression that this was not going to happen, but it could.  I am praying that all works out for them of course.

She was supposed to start a new job on Monday but she has had to turn down the job and is actually starting her maternity leave.  Her husband also started a new job on Monday.  She basically is off this week to get ready for baby girl's arrival home and preparing herself for this change.  She joked that her and her husband had to Youtube "how to change a baby diaper". 

They went to Hamilton this past weekend and spent the weekend at the foster parents house where they will take care of their baby all weekend and get a feel for things.  The foster mother is a nurse so she's taking full advantage of the help while she can.  If all goes well, and the Ministry approves everything in the week timeline, they should be bringing her home next weekend!

I just feel so happy for them!  I can't imagine how someone feels when something like happens.  Being pregnant, you have 9 months to prepare for a baby.  I guess technically they have had 3 years of preparation but now it's real...and in place.

It's funny how things changed basically overnight for them and fell into place.  I am praying that everything works out for them because this little girl will be sooooo loved in their home.  Miracles happen, God is good!

{Weekend Rewind}

Welcome February - the month of birthdays and booked weekends!

Friday - we had a quick supper and went to my grandparents for a bit...nothing exciting.  The kids and I were in bed by 8:30 pm.

Saturday - I tidied up the house, did some laundry then we left to bring my sister in law to the airport then stopped and ran a few errands.  Dollarama always puts me in the poor house - total of the day was $150...what?  It was mostly birthday party stuff (and a selfie stick that I found later on that Ricky put in...and cost $3).  Next stop was the grocery store to stock up on veggies (hey, got a nice head of cauliflower for $2.98 DEAL) and my bill was less than the dollar store!  Haha!  I also got $60 worth of free groceries from my PC points.
Once we were home, the kids and I tried our new mop and finished cleaning up and Ricky got ready to head out to a friends place for some poker.  Maddy had neighbour Madi over for a bit, and we just watched Netflix, baths and was in bed early again.

Sunday - I was up early again with Tanner and made sure that my house was in order because we were getting our new table set today.  I cleaned up the old table and chairs for a friend that was coming to pick them up.  I made a shepherds pie for supper then we got dressed and headed the Church.  It was a really small crowd but that was okay.  We came home, had lunch and just relaxed watching shows until the table arrived around 2 pm.  We had to assemble it ourselves which took about an hour and a half and thank god Uncle Dan and Butch stopped in just at the right time...Dan loves putting things together.  The old table was picked up, the new one was set up, we all ate our first meal at it and then again, baths and an early night!
