FRI-YAY

YAY, it's finally Friday.  This week has gone pretty fast actually...our office has been getting re-painted all week so it's just been me and Netflix all week!

- one week ago we were hit with the not one, not two but SIX tornados - crazy

- tonight Shannon and Rylie are coming home with us - probably a chipstand supper

- tomorrow, the girls (me, Maddy, Mom, Shannon and Rylie) are heading across the ferry to the Carp Harvest Market and then from there we will go to Renfrew for Maddy's dance class then home

- the boys (Tanner and Ricky) will go to the bush and do some partridge hunting

- I almost snagged like 12 pairs of pants for Tanner on kijiji for like $12 BUT of course I was too late...the kid needs pants!

- Ricky has had poison ivy all week and I have had to nurse it which involves calamine lotion and bandages so it doesn't leak all over the place...this morning it was still pretty red, swollen and oozy (gross)

- I was expecting a bonus in today's pay...they keep talking about it but I haven't heard if "International" is included...clearly not this pay (and if the additional $19 I got is my bonus, well that's just a slap in the face)

- I actually got through a screening this week in a government job...I had to complete some more of those stupid text questions and then October 4th I will know if I was a selected candidate for the next steps...

- hockey is starting next week and we tried Tanner's stuff on and all fits, except the skates!  YAY!  He is really looking forward to it this year

- Ricky is preparing to leave for moose hunting which means he will be out of our hair gone for a whole week...a whole week of cereal suppers for the kids and I (haha, only half joking)

What I'm Loving Wednesday

- well this past weekend was what I thought was start of fall...cooler temps and then today...it's 20!

- glad that almost everyone has had their power restored and managing to clean up after the tornado mess

- that Ricky figured out what was causing him to be so itchy, damn poison ivy

- I'm in the office alone today with only painters as we are getting a new paint job with our new rebranding

- all my shows started back up this week...Chicagos, Greys and This is Us

- ordered the kids pictures finally but just bought the digital image because I will get what I want printed off somewhere else

- Advil Cold and Sinus seem to be working better for my allergies...took Benedryl the other night and went to bed but had an awful sleep of tossing and turning because I was soo itchy (I don't think that is supposed to happen makers of Benedryl)

- Maddy taking on the Girl Guide cookie mission this year.  She has made a sign and just wants to set up somewhere to sell some.  We are grabbing more cases and I think I will let her go and sit with Momma at the chipstand for a couple hours on Sunday

- getting to see Rylie this weekend

Happy Hump Day

{Weekend Rewind}

I am sure you all heard...not one but two tornados passed through our region on Friday...and well while the world is talking about that and cleaning up, I am not going to recap - it was a scary experience that my kids and I experienced while driving and I am not ready for another one anytime soon.

Facts

- the Alert system works and well I think we need to be more vigilant of these alerts because clearly, it happens!

- we drove around for 45 minutes basically looking for a clear path home

- Communities really come together in times of need

- I felt helpless all weekend, I wanted to do something

Other non-tornado related things this weekend:

- took the kids to Skyzone and now being there and the Flying Squirrel, we prefer the Flying Squirrel

- did some Girl Guide cookie deliveries and ran out

- cleaned Maddy's room and bought her some new curtains, bedding and room stuff

- pulled out the Fall stuff and decorated around the house

- made muffins, homemade soup and date squares

- Maddy had her first dance class

What I'm Loving Wednesday

- that it's Garbage day, the garbage really reeked this morning

- this week has been so smooth because I had a meal plan in place

- last night at Sparks we were teaching the girls about safety and Stranger Danger and they were asking some really important questions.  It's hard to tell if 6 year olds will engage in conversation, but I was quite proud!

- the kids are doing their Terry Fox run today

- Maddy starts Acro Dance this Saturday

- when everyone around me knows that I am in bed early...Monday night we had a meeting at the school and was walking home (which is rare too apparently) when my friends boyfriend stopped us and was like "how did you get Stacy out to walk AND it's almost 7:00 - almost your bed time" - thanks Terry!! LOL

- finished reading Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell and really enjoyed it...but now I can't get into the book I am reading now...

- next week the Chicago's are starting back up...I am in a TV funk right now, can't seem to get into anything!!

- today it's supposed to be more normal temps - goodbye humidity!

{Weekend Rewind}

Friday was a chipstand supper and a lot of laughs when school pictures came back!!  OH Tanner...

Saturday morning we got up and got ready to head to the Carp Farmer's Market.  It was the first time actually being there.  A friend that used to work with me has a stand there where she makes soaps, bath bombs and stuff and I was picking up some of her new bath bombs.  We had a quick catch up and chat and I bought some additional soaps and a face cleanser.  After a quick lunch, we headed to Kanata where we were going Halloween costume shopping.  We always go to Value Village where they have a whole section of Halloween stuff brand new.  It can get pretty costly though.  Anyways, Maddy ended up making a costume and is some sort of Day of the Dead something or other.  Tanner on the other hand - so many possibilities but this kid had it in his head that he wanted Spiderman, but a certain type of costume which we didn't end up finding.  We left there and headed to Tracy and Butter's for a BBQ and were home by 7 and in bed by 8 I think!

Sunday morning was my week to teach Sunday school so we walked to Church that morning.  When we got home from Church, Maddy and I ran to Shawville to get groceries for the week.  While at Giant Tiger, Maddy found THE Spiderman costume that Tanner was talking about...for $20...YAY!!  I made homemade blueberry muffins and some chocolate haystacks and then got our wing supper prepared and Dad came to join us.  Maddy and I caught up on Amazing Race and Kid's Baking Championship while Tanner went for a walk with the neighbour and we called it another early night!

Seriously...

- I just came back from the washroom at work and when I walked in, I was greeted by a lady that said "ouff, good thing you didn't come in 5 mins ago"...who does that?

- how cute is this speech therapy report I received for Tanner...poor kid has like no teeth, I guess he will always have this lisp "s" issue.

 

- I think all my Spark parents gave their kids chocolate and candy before dropping them off to us for an hour and a half...haha!  It's going to be an interesting year with 8 x 5 year olds!

- Tanner is driving me crazy imitating the IKEA commercial saying "you sound just like your mudder".

- looking forward to my massage appointment today

- have no plans this weekend

- I thought summer was busy, but Fall is looking the same way: Ricky is moose hunting this year which means he's gone for a week, then it's deer hunting, there is Car Rally, there is Thanksgiving, there is Maddy's dance classes, there is Tanner's hockey and Christmas Craft Show at school...holy moly

- looking forward to getting out the fall decorations!!

Weekend Recap

After a very busy weekend, this weekend was anticipated to be low key, and that it was!

Friday after work, I had intention of doing a deep clean of the house, but all I managed to do was the two bathrooms, a load of laundry and scrubbed the kitchen floor.  Then I had better things to do...like take a bath, lay in bed watching The Affair and asleep by 9 pm!

Saturday morning I was restless after a terrible sleep.  I was up very early and ended up going back to bed until 9 am.  Once I got up, there was no stopping me.  I had organizing and cleaning on my mind.  Ricky was in a poker tournament all day and Hollie and the kids were coming over, so I had to get a start on it.  The kids and I went through the toy box and brought two garbage bags of toys to the Family Centre.  I finally moved the couches away and did a good vacuum behind and under the couches (and located all those missing NERF bullets and balls).
Around lunch time, Hollie still wasn't there so Tanner and I went to the school to fill in around the new playground, except, we only had snow shovels and it wasn't working well.  Thankfully the backhoe came and they finished the job for us.  We lazed around home, I went through Tanner's clothes to see what was needed for winter.  Hollie and the kids finally showed up around 3 pm.  We had stuffed shells for supper.  I got snuggles with Thomas and the kids all played nice together.

Sunday morning it was time to get back to Church.  With a busy summer, I think we got to Church a total of two times all summer.  It was nice to be back and see all the regulars.  After Church, Ricky was gone to help a friend do some hay, Maddy went outside to play and Tanner and I watched Frosty the Snowman (yep, for real), went for a bike ride/walk, did some reading and math homework and made some homemade blueberry muffins.  The intention was to have homemade pizzas for supper but Ricky wasn't going to be home so the kids and I just had another snack of corn on the cob and saving the pizzas for tonight!

Kids: School vs Home

Last night we met the teachers at the kids' school.  They both have new teachers so it was a great chance to see what has been happening.

Tanner

At home the last couple of weeks has been pure hell for the most part.  He has become too attached to his tablet and video games, so after a very upsetting weekend, we took it all away and I have to say, things are improving.  However, before this happened, this sweet boy would turn to a pure devil.  Screaming, punching, kicking me because I told him to do a simple task.  Something that could take 5 mins to do (like picking up a toy) and he turns it into a full fledge temper tantrum.  He will usually get Maddy involved and while I will get mad at her (when she isn't doing anything), I know that this is part of Tanner's trick.  Let's forget about me and put the blame on Maddy.

Last night I asked Ms Selina about Tanner in class.  Does he participate?  Cuz he doesn't at home.  Does he actually read?  Cuz he doesn't at home.  Does he seem focused?  Because when asked what he does at school, he stares at me blankly and doesn't know.  Her response was:  Oh, I don't see that side of Tanner at all.  He is one of the sweetest boys I have.  He loves to help me (he vacuums the rug everyday, *cough* he may be my child), he's the first to answer questions and he seems to really love to learn.   The only thing she said that she noticed was that he hates to be dirty...it's not his thing.  When he gets a little paint on him, off to the bathroom he goes.  Ooops, that may have been my fault *wink* 
Maddy




Maddy loves everything about school.  She loves going, she loves learning, she loves new challenges and she just genuinely loves everyone.  Sometimes this causes problems - she will come home and say so and so was doing this to so and so...uumm Maddy, how is that your problem?  It's not, but she sees things happening and gets upset about problems, such as bullying.  I wasn't surprised by the teacher's reactions on Maddy.

Her teacher this year is Ms Peck and she said that so far so good.  Maddy is a good student and while she can tell she is a little shy, she tries to overcome that.  Her French teacher totally boasted about her.  She said that Maddy is one of the best students who actually loves French.  She loved the French History program she introduced last year and this year she is continuing it.  As much as I thought our French teacher was a floozie, after speaking to her last night, I actually understood her "way of teaching" a lot more. 

Do your kids show a different side in different situations?  I guess I should be glad that although I have trouble at home, at least they aren't performing like this at school!!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

- today is Picture Day at school and Tanner was in a really bad mood this morning, so hopefully he smiles!

- today is also the day that the company comes and installs our new playground at the school, an exciting day!

- looking forward to tomorrow when it's garbage day...ugh, I hate maggots!

- looking forward to some downtime this weekend...I need to clean out closets and do winter inventory for the kids

- I haven't found my USB yet with all my Home and School stuff BUT I have pretty much transferred and re-did most of the important stuff

- loving that we are going to have some warmer days still

- picking up corn on the cob tonight to have with some deer steak

Long Weekend Recap

- Thursday night, Ricky and Maddy headed to the fair while Tanner and I stayed home.  I got home from work and didn't feel well.  I had chills really bad, so after a nice hot bath, took some cold meds and hit the hay!

- Friday I woke up feeling better but the typical allergies that tend to start around Shawville Fair time.  We were up early and headed to Shawville to meet the school for their trip to the Fair for the agriculture awareness.  Of course, I also received an important call that I have been waiting for all summer....my playground is coming this Wednesday - great news...except, I had to get the land prepped over the long weekend.  Thankfully after many phone calls and texts, a local with a backhoe saved the day and dug my area on Monday! 

After the school portion was over, the kids and I stayed to do the rides.  Ricky joined us around 7 and then we called it a night around 10:30 pm. 

- Saturday was my birthday and well it was a memorable one but not in a good way.  The kids and I picked my mom up and headed to the city to do some errands and pick up a DQ cake for me.  When we were there, Tanner had a meltdown because his chocolate milkshake wasn't chocolately enough.  He had had some minor outbursts through the day and I knew that the fair was not happening.  His temper on the way home went through the roof and by the time I got home, I was upset and shaking.  When Ricky got home from fishing, I was laying in bed.  I just wanted to ignore everyone.  I wanted to be left alone.  I told Tanner he was not going to the Fair but it wasn't fair for Maddy to miss out, especially since it was Brea Lawrenson night.  Eventually I convinced Ricky to go ahead, I was going to get a bath and going to bed.  I just couldn't deal with Tanner or crowds at that point. 

- Sunday I woke up feeling better.  I was still mad at Tanner but eventually it got better.  He had a rest in the afternoon with me and then we headed back to the Fair.  The kids did the rides for the last time and we filled up on any missed Fair food.   

 
- Monday was Derby Day and used to be my fave part of the Fair, but haven't been there in a couple of years.  The kids were both antsy waiting but once it started, they seemed to enjoy it.  It was hot out though so once the main heats were done, we grabbed Chinese and headed home.  We got lunches ready and called it an early night...like I was sleeping at 7 pm!
