Get Dirty

As you seen in my post yesterday, I took a giant step yesterday and let my kids get dirty!  Anyone that knows me, knows that I hate messes.  I am the one that comes home after work and while I have supper going, I am going through my house in a mad rush, usually vacuuming up cereal and cookie crumbs from the carpet.  If I see toothpaste in the sink, I bring out the wipes and start cleaning down the bathroom.  I blame it on my OCD.  Haha!

Now let me make it clear that I am not a crazy person that doesn't LET her kids get dirty, I just choose NOT to be in that situation, however more and more these days, I am getting teased about it (in all good fun I know).

I was never a kid that liked to be dirty and still am.  The worse thing ever...walking in sand and getting sand in my shoes...hate it.  In my house, my kids do not have Play Doh - they love it, sure, but I hate the mess it leaves.  You are literally picking up (and stepping on) pieces of Play Doh for days.  Paint - another thing that I hate.  The kids can do their painting at school and daycare, hate the stuff.

When I see kids playing in mud puddles, I cringe.  I literally feel ill just thinking of it.  My neighbour jokes that she is taking Maddy this summer and getting her completely dirty so yesterday while we were out with them, I proved to them that I was okay with it (her husband went as far as offering me a stiff drink lol). The funny thing is, my kids don't actually like being dirty either. Yesterday, when they were playing in the mud puddles out back, Maddy splashed Tanner in the face with mud and he was so insulted.  He was walking around like it was dog poop all over his face.  Haha - I think that is when I realized that enough is enough - let them get dirty (and also, I had just bought a bottle of Spray n' Wash).

I will not voluntarily let my kids play in the mud but I will let go of this issue I have and let them be kids.  I will however not let them:

- leave the house with boogers all over their faces...
- or leftovers all over their faces
- play with Play Doh kits...make "cookies" but no hairdressing shop kits
- finger paint unless we are outside

Now, if any of this is getting done at friend's houses, all the more power to them, but my kids better be coming home clean!

Happy Tuesday!

{Weekend Rewind}

Friday
I thought we were going to spend our weekend in the house, disinfecting things because Maddy had the flu on Friday...but luckily it only lasted the day!  I was burnt from the week so I did nothing.  Ricky and the kids went to the hall to set up for the golf tournament and I actually fell asleep on the couch.

Saturday
It was going to be a scorcher of a day.  We were up early so we got started early.  Ricky was going to be gone all day to a golf tournament. By 8 am, we were up at my grandparents cleaning the inside windows and then we brought their car to our place so I could give it a good cleaning.  Once we were done, I packed the kids bathing suits and we headed up to Shawville.  After a quick visit with the other grandparents, we headed over to the splash pad.  I was surprised that we were the only ones, but it was 10:30 am.  After a quick cool off, we ran to the grocery store and headed home.

Tanner packed his bags and headed to Momma's for a sleepover and Maddy and I headed down to the hall for the steak supper.  We got a major down pour and it cooled things off pretty quick, but it also brought the stupid bugs.  Plans took a slight turn when my uncle came down to see if Ricky could get his boat and go rescue my cousin.  My cousin and her two girls were out on a pontoon with their uncle and aunt when it broke down.  Another boat stopped to help them and then their battery quit so they were both stuck there.  Ricky to the rescue.  He left the party, got his boat and headed out.  Maddy and I sat in the car waiting so we could bring them home.  Three hours later, in came all three boats.  We were happy to have been able to help.  Maddy and I went home to bed after that.

Sunday
We skipped church...again.  We went to the hall to clean up from the party then spent the rest of the day inside the air conditioned house.  Just before the kids were getting in the bath, the neighbour called to see if they wanted to go out on the "slip n' slide".  We all headed outside and things turned bad, quick.  Haha!  Anyone that knows me hates when my kids are dirty.  I hate them puddle stomping, I hate them painting, playdoh is a no-no in my house...and after 15 mins of outside...this happened:

I just focused on my breathing and took pics.  Mind you, as soon as we walked in the house - they stripped, I spray n' washed the bathing suits and they were in the bathtub...but they had fun and that's all that matters.  We went to my parents for a steak supper, again and then called it an early night.

5 Things Thursday

5 Reasons I Would Love to Live in the City

I do love living in a small town and I love that my kid's have little schools where everyone knows everyone...but there are some reasons I would love to live in the city for:

1) The city doesn't have mosquitoes and blackflies like we do - seriously, in our town, you could be carried away by them...and it seems this year so far when you get bit, it swells and is really sore and red.

2) Not knowing everyone so when things happen, you aren't pointed at and blamed for like our small town municipality politics...it makes you wanna leave the town in all honesty.  The bullying and pointing fingers is really bad...from grown adults!

3) The choice of stores - oh how I would love to just get in my car and run to the store when I wanted to and not have to drive 40 minutes.  We are in the city all week and most weekends, we head back down because we have to get home to pick kids up and don't have time to do groceries.  Safe side though, maybe I would spend more money in the city.

4) Kids Activities - I would love to just spend a summer day at a park...but we can't do that in our town because our park sucks and has nothing and those bugs make it really hard to go anywhere.  In the city there are more activities for kids (and adults too).

5) Commuting in the winter.  If I could afford two houses, I would have one in the city just for the winter alone.  I am okay with travelling in the winter as long as Ricky is around to drive, but I don't like driving it by myself.

What I'm Loving Wednesday

- that finally, my toe is on the mend...it's still really tender to touch but it's getting better (I have been saying that for two weeks right?)

- that it's already Wednesday, I love short weeks

- experiencing my first security and defence show today and tomorrow

- the weather

- that a parent stepped up as coach for Tanner's t-ball

- pre made meals all ready for this week's chaotic week

- David's Tea...I finally walked into a store, asked questions and got what I wanted.  I am not a tea person but I wanted the iced tea...the lady told me to stick with herbal so I bought the iced tea press container and some packs of peach, mango and lemonade tea.  It's so easy.  I put the tea in the bottom, fill to the line with hot water, fill the insert with ice and let the tea steep for 4-7
mins...then I put the insert in, the tea stops steeping and voila, iced tea!

{Weekend Rewind}

It was a long weekend here in Canada and a nice one weather wise!

- ended up with a blazer and two shirts at CLEO and a pair of leggings at Rickis
- Tanner stayed with my mom and got to visit with Rylie
- Maddy and I joined them at my parents and had supper there and left Ricky at home puking
- Rylie stepped on my sore toe and I finally decided to head up to Emergency to have it checked
- I was there about an hour and the toe is on the mend
- Doctor had to freeze my toe and cut my nail which wasn't pleasant and then they heavily bandaged it and I had that on for two days

- there is infection so I am also on antibiotics for 7 days

Sunday
- in all honesty, it was too nice to go to Church
- Ricky, the kids and I headed out on the boat for a little fishing

- Tanner and I lasted about an hour before he was tired and ready to go
- We went and picked up some groceries
- Maddy and Ricky stayed out a bit longer and Maddy caught her first fish:

- went to my parents for a BBQ
- got some ice cream for dessert

- watched some shows and headed to bed

Monday
- Ricky, my Dad and Maddy went out fishing again
- Tanner and I cleaned the inside and outside of the car

One Year Blogiversary

Today marks my one year blogiversary with this new blog.  I had an entry ready to publish today but I deleted it and decided against it.  I am happy that I continued to blog and didn't let the Quyon Bullies get the best of me.

My week in review:

- Tanner started t-ball...and he really enjoyed it.  The problem, there is no coach and not just that, no one even came to the field to guide us or anything.  Perfect.  That's what you get in our town.  So basically the kids all took turns batting and I took Tanner aside and did our own thing.  I want to email them and ask them for my money back.  I can do this on my own at home, thanks!

- swamped at work

- started Suits for the second time and couldn't get into it...so I started Homeland and couldn't get into that either so now I am trying Grace and Frankie.

- wore sandals all week...but no capris...it was cold the first half of the week, like frost in the morning...guess I have to shave my legs for the weekend though.

- had a salad for lunch with my new yummy Sunset Gourmet Vidalia Onion and Poppyseed dressing...but I put too much on and it was a little sweet but so yummy!

- checked out different online stores to find a business looking outfit, maybe a suit for me to get for the conference next week...but haven't had much luck...any suggestions?

- talked to Josee

- kept my mouth shut regarding some political things going on in our town...unfortunately Jill's blog posting didn't make our local paper but the "mayor" put in a word.  I say this in quotations because I somehow think it was his "private secretary" that wrote it, and not him. In response to his Letter to the Editor, I really think Jill's should go in now.  Stupid, stupid people.

Have a good weekend!

5 Things Thursday

Do you know what today is?
......
......
......
National Caesar's Day...really!  I heard it on the radio the other day that May 19th is National Caesar's Day so I put that in the back of my mind to create today's blog...

5 Favorite Alcoholic Drinks

First and foremost, I am not a big drinker.  I can't really find something that I really like that I don't have to bring appliances and lots of mixes with me.  I also don't like the fact that I do have kids, kids that are up early and if I were to drink, I don't want to feel like crap the next day.

(1) The Classic Caesar - prefer them homemade as opposed to already mixed in the bottles.  I want it to have everything in it, including the hot and spicy green bean!

(2) Daquiris - I love me a raspberry daiquiri and I love it even more when it's served to me in a restaurant because making them is a pain.  When in doubt, I will drink strawberry too if that's all that is available.

(3) Vodka with OJ and Pineapple - Still have to lug around three bottles, but I don't mind a simple vodka with OJ and a splash of pineapple juice.

(4) Punch - anything that is made into punch form that isn't overly too sweet or too strong is always a good choice too.  Bonus points if it's slushy!

(5) Palm Bay - I guess if I was at an event and they just had beer and coolers, I could do one Palm Bay but I couldn't even tell you what flavour.  Some are way too sweet and yucky.  Usually one is enough for me!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

- the weather network is telling me that there are nice, sunny days ahead...let's hope they are right...cuz I am sick of these frosty mornings (in May)

- a $50 Subway card free for filling out a rebate paper when I bought something...it bought us a quick supper last night

- that Maddy loves watching cooking shows with me...when Ricky has hockey on, we cuddle on his bed and watch Guy's Grocery Games and/or Spring Baking Championship

- I ordered a new tablet after Maddy's is inoperable - boo.  It sucks cuz there is nothing wrong with her's, we just can't charge it anymore...but we aren't giving up, I think Ricky is going to find someone to fix it...either way, he bought me a new one so I don't have to fight to get one at night to watch Netflix

- next week I get to feel important and be at our stand at CANSEC, which is a huge security and defence show...I wasn't sure if I was going to be going but they asked me to "man" the area both days...I am excited

- my organizational and scheduling skills - this week at work has been crazy trying to schedule meetings for 8 people...but it's getting done!

Tuesday Ramblings

- Tanner starts t-ball tonight, he's pretty excited

- I am "helping out" seeing how this group of people think I do NOTHING

- I started watching Suits

- I am looking forward to Girl's Night on Friday at Jilly's

- I am crazy busy at work and attending one of our main events next week (and I am sorta scared)

- I think I need to go out and buy a suit to wear...or something a little more business-like for this said conference that I have to attend

- Ricky starts a golf league thingy this Thursday

- I am looking forward to the long weekend...but no plans thus far

- My toe is getting better...it's not very nice looking but it's not nearly as sore

- My niece has been in Mexico for the last week in a cheerleading competition and from what I saw in Facebook - their team won the World Champions!  GO DIAMONDS!

- I was supposed to have a chiro appointment today, but I cancelled cuz I am just too busy (but I think next week I will get a massage)

- I broke all my nails on my left hand this weekend due to moving furniture around...crapola.

- I ordered Maddy some capris to wear to school...even though she has tons of shorts to wear this summer, her capris that she does have are too tight and her shorts are too short to wear...so I scored some deals at Old Navy

Happy Tuesday!

{Weekend Rewind}

This weekend was pretty low key but still did enough!

Friday night we rushed home, had a quick bite to eat, packed up and headed to Maddy's school where we were having a Spring Formal Dance.  We had about 52 kids show up which was nice.

Saturday morning we were up fairly early to get on the road.  Once Ricky got back from turkey hunting (still no turkey, thank god we don't rely on him to feed us haha), we headed to pick up a new set of dressers.  When we were finished that, the kids and I went our separate ways and had to meet the Brownie crew up at the Hospital to display their paintings.

It was a pretty miserable day - but it was a great day to tear apart the house and re-organize.  We had to find room for the new dressers so we did some re-arranging.  Originally the dresser was for me but it was too big for my room so Maddy got the new set, I took hers and we are hoping to get another chest for Tanner's room to give him some more room in his room.  Mid way through our neighbours popped over, so the cleaning and organizing was put on hold.  After a little visit, we headed to my parents for homemade pizza and a visit with this crazy girl:

Sunday morning I prepared a lasagne sauce, and got ourselves up and ready to go to Church.  When we got home, Ricky had lunch ready and then we sat down and watched 4 hours of Big Brother.  It was a cold, miserable day out so it was nice to just sit around watching TV.  After supper, we had baths, played a board game and were all in bed fairly early ready to kick off the week.

My Weekly Recap

Thank God it's Friday (and the 13th, eek)...now, if only the nice weather from yesterday could happen this weekend with NO RAIN, that would be great!

This week...

- I was swamped at work, so swamped, I actually amaze myself that I was still able to get blogs done...truthfully, thank god for scheduling posts!

- I had a really sore toe...I picked a hangnail which left it in rough shape...for the first part of the week I could barely walk on it, finally it's feeling better...not so much looking better, but it's not as sore.

- I thought I had shingles but after three days it wasn't as intense and I am thinking it's just allergies...let's hope anyways.
- I had quick lunches and not so healthy...yesterday, I wolfed down some dry Sugar Crisp cereal.

- We finally got some new dressers...Ricky and I share a dresser and most of our clothes are in the closet...but our closet is getting too jam packed so this will free up the closet and actually give me a dresser and him his own...still looking for another one for Tanner so that I can get rid of the big long one in his room.

- The smell is town has been AWFUL in the mornings.  Some farmer is spreading some sort of shit in his fields at night and it passes all through town in the morning...most of the week I hardly even noticed, but yesterday morning my senses were working overtime and I thought I was going to puke.

- I got a haircut this week...mainly because I was scratching so bad, I thought maybe I had lice, so I went down to the hairdresser to rule that out....and I didn't have lice - phew!

- Maddy started soccer

- Maddy finished her last Brownie class and gets to move up to Girl Guides next year.

Maddy opening the door to Girl Guides with her Brownie Key

- Our municipal councillor was removed from council and as much as I would love to go further on this issue...I can't because people go and tell other people and I get in trouble...BUT...it sucks and this town is going to shit...AND I don't think you will see a big vote turnout for the bi-election that we will have to do again...OH and this guy can't sit on the council for another 4 years which means next year when it's time to get rid of our mayor, he can't even run...which is a big let down...almost makes me wanna move, seriously, it's that bad!

- a 13 month old died in a local daycare centre...didn't know them but it still breaks my heart hearing something like that...I couldn't even imagine getting that phone call...prayers and thoughts are with everyone involved: parents, daycare providers, paramedics, other children that may have seen it...so so sad.

How was your week in all?  TGIF!

What I'm Loving/Disloving Wednesday

- I am loving that it's getting nicer out but I'm disloving (yep, it's a word haha) that the mornings are still cool...that is what makes me grab the pants instead of skirts and capris!

- I am loving that Maddy had a day off yesterday and got to spend it with her Momma, but I am disloving that it was because someone vandalized our school and cut the power and phone lines.

- I am loving that I am busy at work but I am disloving that I have had this itchy factor for the past two days and I can't stop scratching my face and head (and of course panic is setting in that I have shingles again).

- I am loving that we have no plans this weekend but I am disloving it too...will it be a boring weekend?

- I am loving that my neighbour talked about forming a garden in our garden box this year, disloving that we haven't started even cleaning it out yet (maybe this weekend)

- I am loving my new flex hose I got, disloving that you have to sit there and keep spraying the water out for 10 minutes until the hose is back to regular size.

- I am loving that I did a clean up of clothes on the weekend and sent three bags to the Family Centre, disloving that it means that I need to go and buy myself new clothes (I hate shopping for myself)

What are you loving or disloving today?

End of the Week Thoughts

This week I have slept HORRIBLY...but it's weird.  Most nights I would wake up for about an hour just playing games on my phone, eventually fall back asleep but then I don't even find myself that tired during the day.

I have been crazy busy at work - this month is crazy cuz we are part of a big defence conference that is held in Ottawa.

My heart breaks for everyone in Fort MacMurray this week when fires have literally taken over their town and destroyed everything.  I have been reading people's stories and I can't imagine everything happening so fast.  One minute you are at home, the next, there is nothing left. Prayers for Fort Mac!

source

I started burning my Charmed Aroma candle and still no sign of the foil with my ring in it...but I am not going to dig for it like some people do (cough cough)

I took Maddy to the library on Wednesday night for craft night.  I have a feeling that I am going to get lots of homemade gifts this year for Mother's Day.

I have been preparing myself for my Sunset Gourmet party tonight.  I can't wait for friends to come over tonight and dig into the food and SANGRIA!

Our neighbours are moving out - this is exciting cuz the kids are always all over the road and well I am scared that one of them is going to get hit by a car one day.

We haven't watched ANY PVR'd shows this week, life is busy.

I shaved my legs this week anticipating wearing capris one day, but I have chickened out - still too cold for me - maybe this weekend!

I took my phone to Apple and there is no issue with my battery and it seems that one of my apps is causing it to crash.  He also told me that inside where my charger goes, it shows signs of corrosion and asked if it made contact with water...nope, never (but I don't think he believed me...I wonder if I can get it replaced under the one year warranty?  It probably wouldn't be covered, probably my fault somehow.)

Maddy had her last Brownie meeting this week...next week is the Mother-Daughter banquet and potluck dinner.  She will be advancing to Girl Guides next year.

We finally sold our rims from our old car...that will pay for our supper on Saturday night!

Happy Friday!  Looking forward to sun and fun!

5 Things Thursday

Tomorrow I am having a Sunset Gourmet Party (if you would like to order anything, click here) so I thought I would do this:

5 Things I Am Anticipating Buying and Liking

(1) Cucumber Dill Dip

I am a dip lover and this one sounds like it would be great with veggies or even plain chips

(2) Fiesta Dip Mix

this is traditionally made with sour cream and mayo and ate as a veggie dip but I think I would like it in the cheese ball form or even using it as a spice blend for fajitas

(3) Garlic and Dill Pickling Mix

I am not one to make pickles (that is what my mom is for) but this seems easy peasy, lemon squeezy so I may try this.

(4) Peach Sangria Slush Mix

I was very excited that this was included in my Host Pack but I am still not 100% sure how I will serve it.  According to the package, you mix 4 cups of ice, a bottle of white wine and the mix and blend it to a slush...the problem, I am not a big wine lover SOOOOOOOOOOOOO...I may make it like a sangria with white wine, and lots of fresh fruit but add some peach schnapps and some 7up to make more of a punch than a slush.

(5) Chocolate Microwave Fudge

I love fudge and I love it even more when it can be made without fussing over the stove...so this is a win/win and duh, who doesn't love chocolate?

What I'm Loving Wednesday

- the weather and sunshine

- looking forward to dinner at Red Lobster sans children

- my mom won 2 gift certificates for Funky Leggingz and she gave me one...and I picked these capris:

- can't wait to see what my Charmed Aroma candle has in store for me...I bought my mom one for her birthday (yesterday) but I still haven't burnt mine (maybe I will get the big $5,000 ring seeing how my engagement ring was lost stolen)

- I am having friends over Friday night for a Sunset Gourmet party...and I don't even care if people order, I just love having gatherings

- my sister is actually going to come home with us and spend the night at our house so she can attend - without Rylie (haha Tanner will love that)

- that my tulips at work stayed alive for....3 days and now they are pretty wilted and pathetic looking

- after hearing this horrible accident near our town, I am loving the extra cuddles that I give my kids on a daily basis and cherishing every day we have with them

- that Stuntman Stu is starting the process for his bone marrow transplant

- that I have an appointment at the Apple Store tomorrow to get my phone looked at (the battery is draining crazily fast)

- my last chiropractor appointment may be on Friday.  He is going to do a re-evaluation and measurements and see where we are...truthfully I think I am good, continue my home exercises and still work on my posture cuz my lower back feels amazing.

Happy Wednesday!

{Weekend Rewind}

Friday night after work we had supper at my parents then I headed home to make sandwiches.  When that task was done, we headed up to my grandparents for a visit and to see my uncle who came for the weekend.  It was an early night!

Saturday morning we were up early.  Way too early.  Ricky was out turkey hunting so before he came in from that, I finished making my sandwiches, did some laundry and cleaned out all my bathroom cupboards and medicine cabinets.  When he got home, Tanner and I headed up to Shawville to run some errands and visit the other grandparents while Ricky napped.
When we got home all I wanted to do was nap but that didn't happen.  We met my mom and aunt down at the Legion to set up and decorate my Nanny's 95th birthday party.  When that was done, we basically went home for a bit, got ready and headed out to the party.

The party was a great turnout.  Friends and family gathered to give my Nanny's good wishes on her 95th birthday.  We had a local photographer there to capture the moment and of course Jilly was there to take some pics too:

We were home by 9:30 and in bed which was nice.

Sunday the kids and I slept in until about 8 while Ricky was out turkey hunting again (3 days and still nothing haha) and then we headed to Church.  We had a small crew but my lesson was about fear.  I did a little Fear Factor.  I brought some real worms that Ricky had in my fridge (in a Styrofoam thing for fishing) and then I put some gummy worms in a covered dish.  They were all scared to feel the gummy ones so I had to show them haha.  The next thing was cockroaches and they were totally grossed out.  I then told them they were actually dates and Brodee was a good sport and tried one.  The last thing was lemonade with fish eggs (pomegranate seeds) and they all tested that too!

The rest of the day was just relaxing, napping and getting ready for the week.

How was your weekend?
