Now let me make it clear that I am not a crazy person that doesn't LET her kids get dirty, I just choose NOT to be in that situation, however more and more these days, I am getting teased about it (in all good fun I know).
I was never a kid that liked to be dirty and still am. The worse thing ever...walking in sand and getting sand in my shoes...hate it. In my house, my kids do not have Play Doh - they love it, sure, but I hate the mess it leaves. You are literally picking up (and stepping on) pieces of Play Doh for days. Paint - another thing that I hate. The kids can do their painting at school and daycare, hate the stuff.
When I see kids playing in mud puddles, I cringe. I literally feel ill just thinking of it. My neighbour jokes that she is taking Maddy this summer and getting her completely dirty so yesterday while we were out with them, I proved to them that I was okay with it (her husband went as far as offering me a stiff drink lol). The funny thing is, my kids don't actually like being dirty either. Yesterday, when they were playing in the mud puddles out back, Maddy splashed Tanner in the face with mud and he was so insulted. He was walking around like it was dog poop all over his face. Haha - I think that is when I realized that enough is enough - let them get dirty (and also, I had just bought a bottle of Spray n' Wash).
I will not voluntarily let my kids play in the mud but I will let go of this issue I have and let them be kids. I will however not let them:
- leave the house with boogers all over their faces...
- or leftovers all over their faces
- play with Play Doh kits...make "cookies" but no hairdressing shop kits
- finger paint unless we are outside
Now, if any of this is getting done at friend's houses, all the more power to them, but my kids better be coming home clean!
Happy Tuesday!
